When it comes to Marie's Swedish music I think you need to approach her songs more as poetry, in my opinion. They aren't really verse refrain, verse refrain, bridge, refrain. She is telling you a feeling that is enhanced with music and there isn't a focus on showcasing your vocal capabilities. We have some of those artists in Sweden. It's easy to forget her poetic side when you listen to her in Roxette where she is really showing off her power and artistry as a vocal performer. Well, my opinion at least, don't know if other agrees :)

Actually a lot of the Swedish music is like that, can be kind of hard to grasp if you haven't grown up with the style probably, love wacthing this guys reactions by the way :)

An artist I think you should check out (if you haven't already) is Jakob Hellman - especially his debut album. The guy released one album in the 80's and it was so damn good it broke him, it was so deeply personal in the lyrics that he found it close to impossible to do anything after it. He hit a depression and vanished from the limelight. My brother met him while working in the same healthcare service long ago, and he says Jakob was quiet, a bit standoffish and very very smart. He wasn't *completely* retired. He did a few collaborations with other pop artists here and there (the best of which may be "Tusen dagar härifrån" with the band Perssons Pack, the song is about broken dreams and how east and west was never all that far apart), and has recently released another album that's already making critics flabbergasted at how good it is - his voice isn't as amazing as it was, but the songs are pretty damn good.

It is taken from a Swedish musical written by Benny and Bjorn (from ABBA) called Kristina från Duvemåla. You will not find any Roxette-songs in swedish, but Per Gessle too have made solo-albums where he sings in Swedish. He also had a band ("Gyllene tider" or "Golden times") who also sang in swedish - mostly.

Marie is greatly missed. ou mentioned per Gessle. He is from Halmstad and that's one of Sweden's summer towns. Great beaches and pes first band Gyllene Tider has more than one summer hit. Check out Kung av sand. Juni ,juli, augusti.

I remember this it was a very big hit, cant understand why it dident sold better couse it was on the radio for ever, it has a very national romantic tuoch, witch makes me very nostalgic and actually proud to be swedish something we normaly wont do You acually have a very good swedis pronanciation, way better than most american. Also very cool that you, an american takes he time to listen to swedish music in swedish , you could do it the easy way and listen to Roxette who sang in english, I realy hop you ca get a translation to the lyrics that are beutiful. Hey man! I like Marie better in Roxette. Check out fading like a Flower. Maries Voice is strong but not in the Helen Sjöholm kind of way. Or Aretha, but that compare is a lowshot. Btw i like what ur doin here. If i may suggest something u should do. Bob hund - världens bästa dåliga låt. The titel says it all: the worlds best bad song. Its cocky in the right way. And i think u Would really like the song.
