Povel Ramel started a scholarship, "Karamelodiktstipendiet", a yearly award given to a person that has made excellent texts and music. Robban Broberg, your next artist you'll listen to, got this prize in 1989.

You should call it "banger-of-its-time" because it really was. And it is true classic indeed! Povel Ramel is legendary in swedish entertainment.
@eh-modo3 жыл бұрын
As others mentioned, Povel is Swedens equilibrist with words. Beppe Wolgers with whom he often worked wrote the Swedish lyrics "Sakta vi gå genom stan" with Monica Zetterlund. I believe all three of them had a close relationship during the sixties and seventies
@justmaria3 жыл бұрын
Povel Ramel is really a classic and there is many layers to his songs both fun and serious sides in most of them depending on how you listen to them. He had a way with words and played alot on the Swedish language, meaning that almost every word means different things by how you say them. If I may do a suggestion for a reaction... Sarah Dawn Finer with the song kärleksvisan. She is an amazing singer.
@matsbluckert3 жыл бұрын
It´s basically a sixties call to skip formal dress, titles and to enjoy the good things in life, be here and now and to love - in the struggle between head and heart Povel asks "What about the feet?" As a stand up comedian, check Povels partner-in-crime Martin Ljung and "Fingal Olsson", maybe not a classics reaction thingy but peak Swedish 50s comedy (and, it´s all about the small nuances of how you say things..)
@jonashansson23203 жыл бұрын
"Fingal Olsson" is an amazing little bit but I have a feeling that someone who doesn't speak fluent Swedish will have problems with that one. :)
@Stefan-3 жыл бұрын
When talking about Martin Ljung i can really recommend "Skojten" or "Viking" but as Jonas mentioned it can be tricky to get some of the jokes if you dont know Swedish very well, but that goes for many things in comedy since its common to play with words.
@edvinnodrog3 жыл бұрын
My favourite song with Martin Ljung is ''Jasså'' together with Brita Borg, his body language and playfullness with the awkward swedish emotional sterness in social situations always makes me laugh
@jonashansson23203 жыл бұрын
@@Stefan- More or less all comedy needs some familiarity with the language (not Papphammar. :) ), but the amount could vary a lot, some comedy is linguistically very simple, others are not. "Fingal Olsson" is probably one of the hardest, so much of it revolves around different intonations and the like, that one is bosslevel comedy for a non swede. :)
@millepill3 жыл бұрын
It's a good suggestion. Listening to comedy from the 60s and 70s will give Jonathan a great opportunity to learn Swedish properly. I'd say it's a huge difference now from then. Look for Carl-Gustaf Lindstedt, Lars Ekborg, Jarl Borssén, Roffe Bengtson eller Mille Schmidt till exempel. :)

He is playing with words but it’s about the fact that if you take off your shoes and let that primitive side of you out you will relax more and take life less seriously. And yes Povel was ahead of his time in much.
@jonashansson23203 жыл бұрын
First a little warning or whatever you would like to call it. While "Ingela" is a nice little song by Robban Broberg, it's not one of his big classics. The biggest ones are probably "Uppblåsbara Barbara" or "Båtlåt". Povel Ramel. Since he does play with words a lot (as does Robban Broberg) some of his songs can be quite difficult for someone not born here. Especially since they are also quite old. But pretty much everything he have done could almost be considered a classic, he was that big, and he was that loved by everyone. "Far, jag kan inte få upp min kokosnöt." is a simple and somewhat silly one that is definately a classic. "Gräsänklingsblues" is another one that is really beautiful and a bit fun at the same time. Could be a difficult one though..

Povel Ramel is one of my favourite artists! His songs always makes me smile, especially this one - and watching your smile during the song makes me smile even more! Also I realize even more how good it is! Speaking of Harry Belafonte, Povel also made a song called Naturbarn (Nature child) which is also a kind of calypso, if you want to hear more in the same style. A true Swedish novelty classic! Other suggestions to reactions (if you haven't done them yet) might be: Monica Zetterlund - Att angöra en brygga Jokkmokks-Jocke - Gulli gullan Thore Skogman - Pop opp i topp Galenskaparna - Gött å leva Lill Lindfors - Musik ska byggas utav glädje

Not a banger, I agree, but one of the true Swedish Classics. Might be hard to get the jokes, they played a lot with words/grammar. This song is basically about love though. Just admit that it is great to take off your shoes after a long day. Such a simple thing, but it can be enjoyed every day. :) Since you are a comedian, there are more Swedish folks you can check out (not so much songs, but comedy). It is likely wise to start with Gösta Ekman (Papphammar especially), Tage Danielsson/Hasse Alfredsson and Martin Ljung. They all knew each other "back then" and many have done something together.

Some lyrics, themes may be considered awkward, cringy or, yeah, racist. But the inspiration from jazz, boogie-woogie and carribean vibes are also very genuine. And, at his early days, probably somewhat edgy. For something else: "Varför är där ingen is till punchen" is a biting take on ignorant nationalism.

This song doesn't have a secondary message, except perhaps pacifism. It is just party music with ingenious Swedish lyrics that Povel Ramel was reknowned for. He considered himself an entertainer, and seldom did music with any secondary meaning, with the very rare exception of "Varför är det ingen is till punschen".
