I would say a "visa" is not exactly the same as a song, but a "visa" is a kind of song, a genre. A lullaby ("vaggvisa") is a subgenre of "visa". Today most "visor" (plural of "visa") are made for children, but it wasn't always like that.
@lobaxx2 жыл бұрын
@@Jiiimbooh I would say that a visa is a song with a story, with focus on the lyrics and not the instruments. That’s often the case with childrens songs, but there are many (ofte political) adult songs with the same style.

Google translations of the swedish lyrics for your english speaking viewers: "Some people walk with broken shoes Say why is it so? God the Father who dwells in heaven Maybe wants it that way? God the Father who dwells in heaven Closes his eyes and sleeps sweetly Who cares about a pair of broken shoes When you are old and tired? Who cares how the days go They walk as they please Citizens in one hundred years you no longer exist Then someone else has taken your chair And you know nothing about it You feel neither rain nor sun Down in your dark tomb Who cares how the nights go? I do not care at all Only I can keep my face burried in my darling's hair I'm a dubious figure Not good for much Behind a corner, death lurks about He takes me whenever he choose Some people walk with broken shoes Until they have stopped walking The devil who lives in hell Get himself a good laugh then"

Late comment, but some additional context. You're not entirely off about hearing a Spanish influence - Cornelis wrote it in Brazil, after he saw the street kids running around without shoes. However, the tune is Scottish, and originally known as "The Daemon Lover" (or "The House Carpenter"). His new lyrics are however entirely different from the English lyrics.

Cornelis was a true genial artist - like Johnny Cash, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan in one person - his texts are so dense with contrasts, irony, twists, and symbols, that only grown ups very aware of literary traditions and contemporary politics can fully understand them - not kids. Could you sing as satire: Gud Fader som i himmelen bor slumrar och sover sött; in the Bible Belt in the USA? - It was not possible in Sweden, either. Gustaf Fröding wrote: Strunt är strunt och snus är snus om än i gyllne dosor, men rosor i ett sprucket krus är ändå alltid rosor. Cornelis was a mocking rascal, a profound lyricist, a burlesque truth-teller, a critical analyst, a versatile musician, and his humour was a very sharp weapon. We were awed, many of us, that is. Do watch the film, do listen to all his music and pay attention to the clash between text and music and the references he makes both in texts and music, that's so many layered as Walt Whitman ever. We have three great "singer-songwriters": Bellman, Taube, and Vreeswijk. And many good ones, but not so complete, like Fröding, Dan Andersson, Ferlin - others wrote good music to their best poems.

The lyrics are bitter and cynical, criticizing those who think it's fine for people to be poor and homeless. He also points out that any deity that thinks this is fine isn't really worth worshiping - it's anti-prosperity gospel and anti-fiscal conservativism. Cornelis was very much left-wing, stood on the barricades and sang in the tumultuous 60's, and sang together with a loose band of men and women with similar politics and equally legendary voices and lyrics.
