Gyllene Tider made a similar song to the Freestyle tune in 1981 som heter "När vi två blir en" that is a absolute classic. I think 80% of all Swedes knows this song and 100% knows "Sommartider" with the same group. The lead singer later became a part of Roxette.

I love the fact the person who wrote the lyrics on the video spelled "svävar" with an 'e' instead, so it says "svevar" x'D It's the old south Stockholm dialect haha.

In 1983, "Freestyle" was changed to "Style" and 3 years later they took 3rd place in "Melodifestivalen" which was a miniature-version of "Eurovision song contest" and held to determine which of 10 songs would be the swedish contribution to ESC. Since they finished 3rd, they didn't get to compete, but the song became a swedish classic. It was called "Dover Calais" and even spawned a parody by "Di få under bordi" that was called "Domus Paleys". It would be cool if you could react to either - or both.

Oh, One yo HAVE to listen to is Monica Zetterlund. One of our greatest in this country, jazz-legend, actress, comedienne, sang with Louis Armstrong, Bill Evans, Sten Getz, Quincy Jones and is compared to Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughn. You can chose almost anything with her but I would suggest: Sakta vi gå genom stan, Trubbel, Walz for Debbie, Bedårande sommarvals

There is a spoof group called rally that have made spoof or most swedish classic... well this included. Where they change the "break down the wall i built up" to "ride the bull you built up" sounding really very similar in Swedish, making it.. well a bit dirtier. (while this did happen 15 year on, most people was okay with it)

Freestyle was one of the bands that had clearly sex themes. So that made them somthing extra for us young folk back in the day. You should play this in a party and everyone will love it. I think you should play mustasch 1 hit down in black.

.. A bit surprised he never ever seem to mention the clear reggae influences in some of the songs he listens to.. This one is clearly more reggae than soul.. but yeah; We do tend to mesh things a bit and don't care TOO much about trying to accurately fit some form of musical genre... To some extent I think (Free) Style kind of were strongly influenced by Gyllene Tider.

Is there such a thing as a non-horny teenager? Even if this band was no longer in their teens, they certainly knew how to appeal to Swedish teenagers of the day. Still, it's sweet enough to appeal equally to girls and boys. Anyone of that age could identify with the narrative of the song.
