The case Worldwide People's Temple v. Rasmussen was argued on November 14, 2007, at the Ames Moot Court Competition. The presiding judges were Hon. Antonin Scalia LL.B '60, Associate Justice, U.S. Supreme Court; Hon. Carlos Lucero, U.S. Court of Appeals Tenth Circuit; Hon. Debra Livingston '84, U.S. Court of Appeals Second Circuit.
The Ames Competition, held in the historic Ames Courtroom of Harvard Law School, is one of the most prestigious competitions for appellate brief writing and advocacy in the country. The students participating in the Final Round started the competition in fall of their 2L year. Two teams progressed to the Final Round through their strong research abilities and excellent written and oral advocacy.

I’ve been watching a few of these Ames Moot courts for the past few days now and have gotten a deep interest in it. I love the topics that are discussed during these competitions. Mind you I’m a Mock Trailer so this way of oral argumentation is a bit different by how the Judges are using the Socratic method in a way to get certain answers and to simply make the oralist think differently about the topics being discussed. It’s truly amazing how great debaters these people really are.

Omg! I think she should have been best Orator. I was thinking she took every question and instantly fit it into her argument so flawlessly. And now that I realize she's the Solicitor General it makes sense. She does a brilliant job arguing before the court.

I gained a shit load of respect for these kind of lawyers after watching this. The mental sharpness that's required for this job is so undervalued. The judges are also very sharp. it's sad that we don't have judges and lawyers like this in our other bullshit branches of gov't. I'd like these people to make laws, not a paid off politician.

Since the first minute until 3/4 of his argument, Tejinder was bombarded and he basically circled around the "Why are we here?" and "Can't they still sue after 180 days?" question, but he slipped through eventually. This is literally a joke. They just try to grill and get these aspiring lawyers nervous and shaken. While it’s good practice it’s almost like a haze at the same time. If the intention is for them to get practice and get comfortable and referencing cases to strengthen their arguments, fine. It certainly seems to be in there but there are a lot of undertones of essentially verbal hazing.
