In the end, they will either turn into a corrupt league catering towards degenerate gamblers, or salvage their integrity and appeal to actual sports fans whose loyalty lasts a lifetime rather than who they decided to throw money on that evening. At a minimum, prop betting needs to be banned. It’s much more difficult to corrupt the outcome of an entire game. Yeah, cause gambling never happened in sports before. May I make the argument that legalizing sports betting actually allows alot more accountability on WHO is betting? Let me give another example. During prohibition, it was shown that straight up making alcohol illegal was worse than keeping it legal, but regulated. If you make something illegal, you lose the ability to regulate it. Well, it's the similar with sports betting. If it's made illegal, it'd be NEAR impossible to regulate or audit WHO is gambling. With sports betting legalized, there is a paper trail, a path leading back to whoever is gambling. While I understand your point, I need to ask. What damages the integrity of a sport more, players that gamble but are never caught, or players who can easily be caught if they attempt to gamble?

@enohp6608 ай бұрын
You do realize that you can’t actually remove the ability for someone to gamble, right? If your dad stopped, it’s because he developed the discipline he needed to stop. Where there’s a will to gamble, a person will find a way.
@natedogg8908 ай бұрын
@@enohp660 That was the whole point, you can't remove someone's ability to gamble now because its gamified on their phone, back then you had to be in close proximity to gambling dens, bookies, loansharks and casinos to gamble, thus moving to a place without those things facilitated recovery. Your logic is pretty flawed, that's like telling an opiate addict that moving to a secluded cabin with no dealers around won't help them, they just need to "cultivate discipline". These addictions alter your brain chemistry, I grew up on the West Coast and there isnt a recovered addict in the world that won't tell you that you need a change of scenery as well as a change of mindset to recover, thats why online betting apps are so dangerous
@natedogg8905 ай бұрын
@@enohp660 This was in the late 80s/early 90s when you couldn't just gamble from an app on your phone. You had to physically go to gambling dens or be in the same city as a bookie and a loanshark. We ended up moving to the boonies when I was 4 to get away from it all. It took a while, but being away from temptation and the source of your addiction is a huge part of recovery, any addictions counsellor will tell you that. That's the problem with these modern gambling apps, there is basically no escape as long as you have a phone and an internet connection. Not only that, but the apps and advertising are all designed by UI/UX engineers to hook you and keep you coming back. Back then the people you dealt to gamble with were criminals, but they had more of a code than these new gambling corps and banks do. They would cut you off and maybe rough you up, but you wouldn't walk around with a mountain of credit card or bank debt hanging around your neck. We're going to see the result of mass gambling addiction in a decade or so and it's not going to be pretty I'm for legalized gambling btw, its just irresponsible to let some greedy corp handle it
@natedogg8905 ай бұрын
So I've tried to respond to the above comment a few times now, but it's been removed every time despite having no swear words or personal attacks. I feel like it’s important to respond though, as I believe this gentleman’s opinion is wrong and ill informed My story here occurred in the late 80s and early 90s, back then you couldn't just gamble on your smartphone, you had to physically go to an illegal gambling den or a casino and be in the same city as a bookie/loan shark. When I was 4 my family moved to the boonies from the city for this reason, and under those circumstances my dad was able to recover. When dealing with addiction, escaping the temptation of enabling friends and the source of your addiction is essential for recovery, there’s no addiction counselor in the world that won’t tell you that. It’s why rehab centers typically aren’t in the middle of skid row or in Las Vegas That’s why modern sports betting apps are so dangerous, they make it so anyone with a smartphone and an internet connection can gamble. They’ve also spent billions of dollars on advertising and UX design to hook a new generation on gambling and keep you playing. These corporations are doing this knowing that in a decade or so we will have to deal with the fallout of mass addiction, just like the Sackler family did with opioids and the tobacco industry did with cigarettes. I’m all for legalized gambling, but allowing greedy corporations and tech giants to monopolize it is no different than leaving it to organized crime. It needs to be responsibly administered

Excellent video as always! I'm less concerned with fringe players fixing games, than referees fixing games, because they will never make what players make, and can affect the pace and the outcome of the game in subtle ways throughout the course of the game. The danger of fixing elements of the game is amplified by the fact that you can bet on almost anything throughout the game, so individual things like the over/under for a quarter, or a player prop for a half could be manipulated without really standing out. The NBA already gives mandates on what it wants officials to call/not call, but in the last month we've seen games where the totals ranged from 152 (Sixers 79, Knicks 73) to 295 (Lakers 150, Pacers 145 (no OT)), that seems like an extremely wide range, and can't be solely due to the energy levels of the respective teams. The fact is that NBA games (and other sports as well) have gotten significantly weirder since gambling was legalized and became more prevalent. The microscope on referees has intensified, the injury reports started resembling those of the NFL and the players have started taking days off for load management to the point where the NBA had to put into effect rules to keep them from sitting out too many. We've seen unexpected late scratches of players, and games where half the team is listed as DTD so you have no idea how many key players will be out. You don't have to rig every play to rig a game against too evenly matched teams. Just a couple of little calls here and there can make the difference, and swing the odds and momentum in the favor of one over another,

I remember Dejounte Murray had a discount on his points on Prizepicks on St patty’s day. He went over and I won but how he hit the over on his points prop was just so suspicious. Literally the hawks were up and they took all the starters out besides Murray and he hit his point prop in garbage time with two free throws then he got a personal foul and finally got subbed out right after hitting those free throws. Earlier in the day they released a Jokic and Rozier discount. Jokic was one of the three that didn’t hit their over on those discounts, and to me my lil theory is if murray didn’t hit his over, a lot of people would delete that app so they def made a call before or during the game to make sure he went over and they also like that viewership money so they had him hit in the last quarter with very little time left in the game. I have many instances where I placed a bet and it hit and it didn’t feel “real”. One of those instances was a jahmir Gibbs TD during the nfc championship game with the lions vs 49ers. Somehow I just knew deep down he would score a TD and the 49ers just let him walk right in and I was like ok Buddy that sureeee seemed real. Remember I won these bets and something just seemed so off about those wins. After Murray hit that discount I just knew I was done spending my own money on these gambling sites and it’s not even worth it anymore. Idk about y’all but some stuff that happens in sports don’t even seem real to me anymore. Anyways just want to wish y’all a great day and stay blessed!

Legalised gambling in the US -> bye bye US. I remember when gambling was legalised in the state of Victoria in Australia back in the mid 90's. The then head of World Vision Australia, Reverend Tim Costello, spoke out against it claiming that it will ruin peoples lives (gambling addictions leading to broken marriages, increase in domestic violence, increase in crime, increase in permanent self harm). He was laughed at and ridiculed, written off as a religious do gooder. 10 to 20 years later, he was proven right. FYI, I was 17 when they legalised gambling in Victoria, and it ruined my life till I found Jesus

@swaymcthunder12198 ай бұрын
I highly doubt this, especially after watching a clip of him avoiding that rebound. I do know people who do this, but it's usually with players with higher props. These bench guys with such low totals can hit there props with like 10 mins of playing time. Taking an under prop on someone like AD, he will need alot of playing time to get to his numbers.
