I don't own any of these clips.
This is a compilation of some moments where Ami and Yumi speak japanese in the show. Most of the time, they speak japanese pretty randomly.
I want to know if anyone watching this video understand japanese. Does it sound correct? I know that the voice actor of Ami (Janice Kawaye) does speak some japanese. But the actress for Yumi (Grey DeLisle Griffin) does not.

Well that and the fact Sam Register thought a Japanese rock band who could sing and speak both English and Japanese was a great concept for a cartoon. The success of Teen Titans was what allowed Sam to get the idea green lit by Cartoon Network. Had Sam not come up with the idea in the first place and got the girls to sign on it never would have even made it to Cartoon Network’s executives in the first place

It’s not a dub this cartoon was made by Cartoon Network and Renegade animation because the Japanese Rock Band Puffy Ami Yumi sang the intro to Teen Titans and spoke both English and Japanese. Sam Register thought that was a great concept for a show and approached the girls about making a cartoon of them and wanting them to voice the characters. The girls thought the idea sounded really cool, but they were too busy touring in Japan to voice the characters full time, which worked out because Cartoon Network wanted to use professional American VAs who could speak Japanese instead

None of it changes the content of the plot much. It’s sort of purely cosmetic, meant to make bank on Japan’s image as a “cool” pop culture without cultivating any particularly meaningful cultural exchange.
