You should look up the story of when he met princess Diana in the UK. She asked him if he would do Dirty Diana. MJ told her that they took it out out of respect for her. Diana then told him she actually liked the song. However it was too late to put it back in.

A lot of people thought the song was about Diana Ross because they were so close, but that wouldn’t make sense for too many reasons. He actually chose to not sing it at a performance that he knew Princess Diana was at, cause he don’t ant to disrespect.

For this song, there were/are three possibilities for who Diana was, 1) Diana Ross, 2) Princess Diana and 3) Sheila E (Prince's ex). Diana Ross and Princess Diana were just friends with Michael (which he confirmed) however he did state the song wasn't about a specific person. Michael stated it was about groupies, that certain type of women. This was Princess Diana's favourite songs, unfortunately Michael never performed it the night the she attended his concert because he thought it would be an insult to her. There is a clip of them talking about this.
