This was very very lucky and we are very happy it ended well. However, this could have been a very tragic accident. This is very preventable, Do gear checks before plane and before exit. Check each other before door opens, make sure you have a tight closing loop, be mindful of space and what your rig may touch, but most of all.......look out for each other.
This scary video is a reminder to LOOK, CHECK, WATCH yourself and others. Be safe Blue Skies!

I had a similar incident as a jump pilot in a 182 way back 20ish years ago. Static line student with one jumper per pass, first guy out that spent the climb in student slot against the instrument panel. As he rotated around to get his feet out, I noticed something wrong with his student rig but since I only had a few jumps, I couldn't place what I saw wrong in that quick second as I was trying to setup the plane for the long student exit. I thought the Jumpmaster would notice if anything was wrong on the equipment check (pilots: remember you're still the PIC!!! It's not "not my problem" even if it is a rig issue). As he's climbing out to the full hang position at the crook of the strut and wing, which he luckily got all the way to, I notice what is wrong is his reserve pin cover flap and the pin is working loose, especially as it rubs against the door. Right as he got in the hang, the reserve popped open! I still can see that pilot chute springing out. Knowing that tails getting ripped off is a thing like the Australian Caravan accident, my hands actually went to my door and the seatbelt as the plane jerked 20 degrees to the right with the opening shock since I was sure the tail was going to be ripped off. Turned out he missed the tail too like in this situation and and I was quickly looking to see if the Jumpmaster had noticed I freaked out and was going to bail on them 🤣 He was too busy watching the now double deployment that the student did a great job of cutting away the main on his first ever jump. The DZ owner even gave him a second jump that day since he asked. Thanks for posting this, not only does it help safety, it also show exactly how he missed the tail all those years ago.

Seriously. You can see it initially fell, before inflating, which meant it pulled her downwards, but given the physics, the parachute wants to be above your head, even if that means pulling you back up. You can see less than 20 feet past the plane she is pulled back up from the speed and lift, high enough that if she'd been pulled straight back she would've gone into the tail

It is really sad to see such a thing happening, we are all humans and inevitably we will make mistakes. Some mistakes worse than others tho, this one could have cost few lives and let many others in sorrow. The sad part is that this is something VERY dangerous, extremely EASY to avoid and still we see every other week a video like this. Gary Speer explained really well how to avoid it, I just cant agree on the "entertainment side", there is absolutely nothing entertaining about it, but thanks for posting it and bringing awareness to the community. Please people, stay safe.

Had an old rag wing 170. Girl, with a too short static line, jumped, her pilot chute & bridle went into that outboard gap between the horizontal stabilizer & elevator. Nose went up about 45 decrees but I got it back down. Bridle snatched loose, opened okay. If it can happen, it'll happen.

Glad that did not become a tragic situation. Surprised that "Amie" didn't react to the sensation of her harness/container suddenly feeling more relaxed as the main container opened and the bag dropped to the A/C floor. A pause in her climb out to check into that sensation would have allowed jumpers 3 & 4 to become aware and restrain her from continuing to climb out & capture the bag. If that was to be a 3-way or more exit, those behind her were slow to be moving into their exit position which kept them from intervening. On the entertainment side, good editing, sound track & funny selected freeze frames.

I had no idea what happened other than the chute deploying. I wasn't sure after the first run through of the video but the comment section has never failed me. I thought I initially that once the jumper actually got out on the crook that the pat/swipe of the other person's hand somehow deployed it. After scanning the comments I believe I got the gist of what actually happened. It boggles my mind how many of these videos there are online. I've seen several similar to this one where the jumper misses tail by what appears to be meer millimeters. The more I watched the video the more confident I've become that this lady had some divine help. Looks like she went straight through the horizontal stabilizer. Unbelievable 🙏🏻

Its not the same, but this reminds me during my aff lvl 4. When almost at altitude we got message that weather changed and aff was no longer allowed to jump,but the non aff were. So my instructor and another aff student with two instructors stayed in the plane to go down and land again. For anyone that ever landed with a skydiveplane, you know those pilots are crazy and sometimes beat the jumpers to the ground. Anyways at 1300 feet he was still diving fast enough trigger both our student- AAD's. That pilotchute popped right into my instructors face, giving him a scratch on his chin.
@grazzling
@grazzling Жыл бұрын
That's why AAD's are meant to be turned off when you stay in the plane and after the door is closed again. The instructors should have been very much aware of that! To be honest here (since it is a safety related accident), this does not shine a very bright light on the quality of your AFF instructors.

@@timmyingelbrecht6977 Strange. Might be a difference in what is communicated as the point of no return. At my dropzone, a student was only required to jump after putting their feet out of the door at jump height. At any point before that, they could tell the instructors that they don't want to jump and would then land with the plane with at least one instructor staying with them. This was not very common, but it did happen occasionally (I did it myself at Level 3, actually, since I had second thoughts about not being focused enough on that particular day).

Hi Alex. Your absolute right..the pilot at times can have a free hand, but during climb out (at stall speed) and a jumper hanging under the strut, the pilot also figures (assumes) the 4 passengers will watch out for each other. My main point is the guy in blue nearly killed 4 people. I was blown away how Mr. Blue did nothing. NADDA. Any time a bag falls out w/ door open, you'll scream " open container!!" Lay down on the bag and some grabs the door. And yes it all starts on the ground, check your gear and everyone on the load. ✌

Lot’s of shit here. Don’t think a pin check would have prevented this, look at how she turns to get out. Rather than swing both feet out, she pivots onto her left knee, which swings her rig against the pilots seat. She big time rubs the back of the rig against the pilot seat and it looks like this rub is what opened things. This is what happened to me many years ago, caused a horseshoe on exit. I was last out on a trail plane for a formation load. I heard the seatbelt buckle bouncing against the outside of the plane as I came forward, and was so focused on getting it back in during exit that I turned wide and rubbed my rig into the pilot seat. Dove out, saw white lines over my right shoulder, thought no, didn’t really see that, looked over the left and saw the same, then managed to toss my pilot chute. Bag lock, some stand up looking at my pilot chute, and chop. Also, notice that the guy behind her, blue jump suit and helmet, sees the bag on the floor of the airplane and instead of containing it and getting her back actually throws the bag out of the plane. Lucky that the tail sliced the canopy. She could have got caught on the tail or even been pulled into and destroyed that half of the tail and killed her, maybe destroyed the plane. Easy to second guess, having time to think rather than instant response, but he probably should have contained the bag and got her back in, or at least held it until she got off the airplane to keep it out of the tail. I don’t think tossing it out with neither her or the pilot knowing what was going on was the best option. You can see the pilots eyes in the video from the guy hanging the strut. Pilot was busy with the plane, didn’t look to see what was going on til her canopy was going through the tail, so no chance of pushing the tail out of the way. Opinions?

If it had opened a second earlier the rear plane elevator and possibly tail would have been ripped off.

Its a miracle no one was killed. That could have brought the plane down as well if it damaged the tail. One must always be vigilant for their gear and not just check it on the ground. But also in the plane and during crucial exit. The deployment bag was clearly on the floor of the plane during climb out! Anyone watching out for their gear and others could have seen that. These folks were very lucky.

None of these people should ever skydive again. And the pilot should retire as well.

Why was that person pushing them out like that? With the demonic look on their face, no less?

Because it was too late. The person was already in the wind and he was trying to control the trajectory. Happens within a second.
