One of my favorite games. First played it on my C64 as a kid, and many years later on my Amiga. I've longplayed this twice before. First time in 200X with terrible quality as we (Amiga longplayers) didn't know a better way (bad codec etc). Then in 2009 I redid the longplay as I then knew a much better way of doing things, had higher standards. Today I'm pro AF and noticed after taking a look at the 2009 version that it's not up to my standard of today, AND I cropped a big chunk of pixels off the top of the Batcave level.
3 versions exist: "Budget: Hit squad" (1 disk, SPS ID: 1730), "Retail" (1 disk, SPS ID: 0019), and "Retail" (2 disks, SPS ID: 0006). I took a quick look on all three, mainly the main menu, checking details in case something might have been changed, same on the highscores list, and first moments of level 1. I saw no difference, BUT went with the 2 disk version so I got the 'insert disk' picture (no text, just a floppy disk) AND just in case something might have been left out in the other two 1 disk versions due to lack of space (probably not).
So, finally, and again, I re-longplay this game once more. No missing pixels (except one vertical row of pixels of right side of the bottom hud/panel/belt, but only on the first and last levels for some reason... these pixels never showed ingame for me), showed some extra stuff left out in the other 2 longplays. And, another thing, which is pretty common with my longplays today, I add an "extras" video where I show stuff I didn't/couldn't in the main longplay, like deaths/game over/etc. You can find a link to it at the bottom of this description.
One thing I COULD have included was the Batplane thingy hit the ground, and maybe add the game over part at the end of the movie, and also maybe the 'insert disk' thingies between levels... BUT, didn't want to add those, well, the plane-thingy I would have, but didn't think about it at the time... but the other two was a no - 'extras' only.
I didn't care about playing "good", so I take a lot of damage, especially on the driving and flying parts as I wanted to show all the smoke and fire. On the last level at one point I got bored of waiting for bad guys to come down so I could safely kill them before climbing up, so I just climbed up on the same ladder they were using and took a lot of damage, in case you wondered why I did that :)
I really like the Batcar driving part's music. Had it on loop many times in the background when I work on stuff :). The start of it is really nice, and the general drum beat throughout makes it really nice.
On the flying level I should have waited with taking all the damage at the end instead, so I could have done the level quicker, which I thought of shortly after taking all the damage, but was too lazy to restart.
I got hit by bullets at 05:06 and would normally have died, but killed the soon-to-be Joker first so became immune.
I find it weird that you start off with 2 (out of 3) lives, but when the Batcave is completed, you get the third life, but only until the next level begins and then you're back to 2 again. At 17:35 I pass 200k points and gets the third life.
The controls are great in this game, also the rope, kinda nice it's sort of unrealistic in a way so I can hold left without swinging back - 15:18. Could be useful in some places.
Hmm... anything else.... ye, messy text so far.... ah, right, the Batmobile from the side (when turning) was used in my Kung Fu 4 animation once: • Kung Fu 4 (NES animati... (Batman himself is from Batman Returns, also Amiga)
The "extras" video: • Amiga Misc [031] Batma... -

I liked the way each time you began to lose health your face (batmans face) would begin to etch/dissolve away and get replaced with layers of Jokers face. The more you could see of Jokers face the less health you had. This was quite a clever way to demonstrate the health bar in games back then I felt.

Just started playing this on Miyoo Mini Plus and bought it on ebay for my Amiga 500 Plus. This game was way ahead of its time. It was one of the first games i ever completed on my Amiga. Great music, game play and graphics 👌

This is the most accurate Batman console game to the movie I've seen, I love the Batplane stage! and also, you get to see how the Joker falls all the way down to his death, brutal!

Wow, that is the longest first level I have ever seen in a side scroller. Brutal! I'd say if you didn't have the NES Batman and only had an Amiga 500 you'd be pretty happy. This game looks and sounds great plus the grappling mechanics are way ahead of its time. Yeah, I'd like to play this.

The driving section wasn’t the hard bit it was the batwing. Because of the random placement of the balloons it made it difficult to cut them all.

This was a great game. One of the few I made it all the way to the end and finished. It was not easy but not impossible as some games. And fun would like to play it again some day.

Watching this now helps me feel a little more sane as I always remembered this game being pretty ruthless/brutal and I feel this video confirms my memory to have been fairly accurate! (Bearing in mind: my friends and I were sub 10yo when this released) 😂 Great game ❤

Making games offering different gameplays in movie adaptations was the norm at the time. Rambo 3, Ghostbusters 2, The Untouchables, Back To The Future, Robocop (to a lesser extend)... Batman was completly designed around these two gameplays : Platform and race (with a little puzzle at mid-road). Even if now I think Batman is a bit heavy to control compared to console versions, that's true that these platform parts were nice. But race levels were very nice too. It's brutal, but it's very exciting too! The only flaw is that each part in vehicle is a little bit too long. I think they tried to extend the duration of the game in phases that were easy to stretch. But maybe I'm wrong and that's just because they were very proud of these technically impressive levels in a 1989 game 😁

I always wondered why musics on Amiga (except Axis Chemicals , The Batcave and Gotham City Cathedral) are differents from the Amstrad and Atari ST versions .
@iXien
@iXien 2 жыл бұрын
At the time, OCEAN was very proud to have obtained the rights to develop the adaptation of Burton's movie which was shaping up to be a huge success even before its theatrical release. That's why Batman The Movie is an in-house project in which they worked hard to ensure that each version of the game exploits in one way or another some specificities of each machine. I remember the CPC version I really loved when I was a kid. Colorful graphics with scrolling, various musics as well as different gameplays from one level to another. It was crazy ! The main game content remains the same in all versions to be quickly adapted on all systems without having to completely rethink it from one version to another. This is what gives this 8-bit aspect to the game even on 16-bit machines. But to exploit the power of the PC, ST and Amiga, it was necessary to offer a different experience somewhere in the game. The easiest levels to redo were those that take place in vehicles. They decided to go from a side view to a much more impressive rear view that can only be envisaged on 16-bit machines. And when we see the result, we really regret that the team behind this Batman did not work of Chase H.Q. for a better result as what TEQUE bring us. And on Amiga, it was possible to go a little further than on ST and PC by offering music specially designed for these already technically impressive levels, exploiting the capabilities of the Paula chip with more complex samples. And while we may regret that Jonathan Dunn modified Matthew Cannon's superb soundchip music of the platform levels that was not composed for the use of samples, the original compositions of the vehicle levels are fabulous and make these sequences even more unforgettable. In addition, Amiga version offers a little bit wider display area (320 againt 288) and the ST version has no SFX (that's weird as we had SFX in the CPC version that uses the same music with the same channel number)

American ignorance as this was marketed as a European game. Also AVGN probably isn't aware the game exists due to not owning an Amiga.

Yeah that's the problem of multiplatform ports back then unless the games specifically targeted only 16 bit micros and had no 8 bit micro versions at all the game would not even be at all near utilizing the power of the newer computers it may look better but it still has the lowest spec machines holding the game back kind of like modern multiplatform video games if it is also on the Nintendo switch you can only do so much when you have to also develop for a potato 🥔
