I've wanted to do this longplay for quite some time as other longplays of this Amiga classic are not very good for various reasons (bad cropping, bad resolution, bad gameplay etc.). Also, I wanted to do the longplay, playing it at the hardest difficulty level (Expert).
Throughout the longplay, I show how to deal with each situation without getting hit. In the last couple of stages, some of those situations are subjects to coincidence as the alien movement is quite random. I pick up both the mechanical and exploding mice, but I don't use them.
I played the original version of the game for this longplay (SPS ID 1163), the cinematic sequences are on throughout the game and the copy protection screens (using the teleporter) have been cut from the longplay.
(Source recorded at 50 fps.)

This was Amiga at it's peak, one of my grandest gaming experiences. First impression when it came was just that everything about it was top notch, and the way characters moved had so much life to it. Sure, Another world was awesome too, but this was more real gameplay. Thanks for uploading!

I love that after enemies drop transparent squares, the message up the top is "HEY!" and then when you get to a gate it says "HEY LOOK".

dude, you're awesome. Thank you for this lameless and smooth gameplay. Don't listen to them- your logo _is_ important and you fully deserve to sign your work. Really appreciate,as it's probably best Flashback walktroughs.

I must say, I've played this game on my Mega Drive (or Genesis in the States) and still love it. But the sound quality on the Amiga is just so much better, at least for the music. But regardless of platform, this is an amazing game, and I still play it from time to time!

BTW, how many of you got stuck for ages at 19:29 in the game due to not knowing how to make that jump :Pppp Took me weeks to figure out the controls for that.

That's why you'd read the manual back then... Nowadays, having to read it (considering there's even one) is regarded as a failure to the "user friendliness" of the game. Ah, the good old times.

This is a fabulous longplay of a fabulous game. Your use of the combat moves is precise and exquisite. I also love the trouble you've taken to do things properly, including all the traipsing required to get a work permit, and the little bits of optional dialogue (plus showing how hard is is to catch a train when coming from the elevator!)... I'm only a third through so far but wanted to comment anyway. Awesome work. Couple of queries: Are you aware that you can place objects (like the rock, receiver etc) at your feet, rather than throwing them? I may find the answer to this later, of course. Isn't there a way to get the two mutants in the jungle to shoot each other? I have a recollection that you could.

This is a nice longplay, but it's a shame that you cover up the bottom right screen with your logo! Unfortunately that keeps me from fully enjoying the gameplay as I find it very distracting to have the logo in my eyesight all the time. But other than that, good job with this one!

Thank you very much.The watermark is no beauty, agreed. However, from experience I know that it minimises "abuse": Some users have difficulties with knowing the difference between "my stuff" and "your stuff".

Only ever played this for the Mega Drive and can't believe they took out the little cut scenes with Conrad using the ID card in the machines etc. Just makes the confirm noise.

Judging by my name and avatar, and the contents of my channel, I think I can agree with you on that. lol. This game is definitely good but there's just something about Another World's immense, gorgeous atmosphere, great challenging gameplay and ease of control that can't be topped by Flashback. I have the original French release of Another World for the amiga, myself. I dont own an amiga so its mostly for the sake of collection, though. haha

Lester Knight Chaykin What do you think of the sequel Heart of The Alien? I think it kind of ruined the good ending of the first game and was also just a worse game.
@jackaleope
@jackaleope 8 жыл бұрын
Heart of the Alien was never even supposed to exist. Eric Chahi (creator of Another World) had already gone off to form Amazing Studio with Frederic Savoir (who worked on Flashback as a programmer) to make Heart of Darkness, while Heart of the Alien was essentially being made behind his back and completely without his input at Virgin/Interplay. The game wound up being so bad that Eric actually /refused/ when they wanted to put his name in the credits despite him having no actual involvement. lol. Virgin/Interplay approached Eric in a "what if" sort of way about a sequel right before he left, and his only input whatsoever was that he wanted to see the game from "the alien friend's perspective". That was it. Other than that, he really had no desire to make a sequel at all; he still cites to this day that he did, and still wants to preserve Another World just as it is. (Which is why there has been no remake of the game, only an HD remastering.) They took this and ran; they tried to (badly) copy the assets of the first game, retaining absolutely none of the soul and relying on cheap, gorey deaths as opposed to actual puzzles or strategy to make the game difficult. They were more focused on making the game "edgy" and "adult" than actually making anything close to a proper sequel to another world. And frankly, I'm pretty sure Eric found the ending of Heart of the Alien to be just downright insulting. It was an attempt at a cash in on the name of Another World, and nothing more. as a general rule, fans of another world just tend to pretend Heart of the Alien doesn't exist. :p That's how bad it is.
