I can remember playing this game with my two sons, who were very young, sitting on either side. When they were of age to use the Amiga Joystick, they both played it. We three are still avid games 30 years on. :) I still have both my Amiga 500 machines and the Amiga 4000. Great memories. :)

@@TopperJordan I did the same thing, upgraded from a A500 with a 20mb HDD to a A1200 with a 40mb HDD - then over time added a 68030 and 68882 board with 8mb of RAM and a 420mb HDD. Unfortunately I sold it in 2001 so I could buy a PC, which was very stupid of me.

PC games of that time feels like a different breed altogether than the arcade and home consoles at the time. And they are usually quieter than home consoles and arcade. This makes old PC games somehow more aesthetically pleasing.

Flashback was the first actual first sci-fi narrative I ever got in touch with when a kid, scrambling through the emulation folder that the computer technician left on the PC. Sega? Genesis? I had no idea how to work them out. Search the internet with minimal english knowledge. Find out how it works. First word that catches my attention: Flashback. I know that word. Let's check it out... ❤️ Love at first sight.

@MrDibara
@MrDibara 8 ай бұрын
Another World was... _okay, not "straight forward",_ but what you needed to do you vould figure out by yourself with what was on the stage at the moment. A little more intuitive. Flashback has moments where you need to actually converse with characters (the New Washington stage) and that could get some of us off guard if we were still young kids barely learning how to read yet.
@gbxgbxgbx
@gbxgbxgbx 8 ай бұрын
@@MrDibara yes it was far more complex, AW was a straight story, not much figuring out. I couldn't really read English well back then so it was just too hard for me. But the execution of this game, man, the complexity, the short animations, frankly it was hard to believe Amiga 500 could have pulled it off.

I just finished this, the walkthrough helped me out in some parts. Holds up quite well over a quarter of a century (!) later. We take cutscenes, a storyline and a decent amount of gameplay for granted and Flashback had all of these. In an era where one-disk simple games were standard. Never got to try finishing it back in the day because the copy I had had a bad sector and crashed very early in level 2! I gave it a go on a SNES emulator maybe 15 or so years ago but didn't finish it. Amiga version definitely has better sound.

The difficulty level of most games especially Amiga games would have most kids these days raging out and crying and rocking in a corner. Weak! It also taught you the need for sleep and letting your subconscious figure things out. Play a boss and die 15 times using up all your accumulated lives but go back the next day for another try fresh and you kill him first try!
