The Paula 8 bit sound chip with sampling capabilites and - for this era - early to mid 90s - 'HiFi'-sampling/playback sound, it was amazing times! And these amazing producers was also way ahead, because many of the top tracks from that era is still completely amazing today. I think that the limitations forced two important things: Creativity to overcome the limits, but also limits to over-producing with efx and mastering (totally unknown concepts for me, et al, at this time). / SLC

Making music for games is different, especially on an Amiga. Samples can't be too big as there is other stuff to fit in memory, and usually you need to keep one Channel free if you want sound effects, so you are limited to three.Channels for music, which isn't a lot compared to other systems of the time. The Amiga needed 8 Channels to be workable that way. Also, niche genres like this don't go down too well in games as they have to appeal to a wide audience. It's why you don't hear a lot of games with Death metal soundtracks, and also part of the reason why Streets of Rage 3 wasn't very popular at the time, as it's more hard techno score put a lot of people off who just weren't into that style of music compared to the easy listening house tunes of the previous games.

If you search my channel, you will find some more of Hoffmans tunes in my uploads :) Check all the Jungle / Drum & Bass Compilations (there are 8 videos), also check the Random / Mixed Compilations (there are 10 videos) :)) Pretty sure there's another 12 Hoffman tunes in amongst those videos. Plus a couple of single uploads, search Hoffman - Drop the Panic and Pattern Skank, a vocal mix of Pattern Skank is in Random Compilation #8. If you like these, you will probably like Esau Compilation #1

Just because the instrument has been around since 1980's doesn't mean music is old. Its like saying rock is from the 1910s when the electric guitar was invented. I too grew up with C64, Amiga 500, 600 1200 and loved all the chiptunes growing up. and now EDM.. :)

Are these tracks royalty free? Can you use them in videos, games etc without having to worry about copyright?
@off1k7 жыл бұрын
They should be as they're released in the public domain, I would credit the Composer though either as Hoffman or Ian ford. EDIT- when you say games, do you mean your own designed games or youtube videos of games, if own games then I would ask for permission. 22 of my videos have copyright claims against them and the only Amiga musicians that have claimed so far are: Moby, Sidewinder, Vesuri and Dj Nick.
