"Knock on Wood" is a popular song by Amii Stewart released in 1979. The song is a disco track and became a significant hit for Stewart. It's a cover version of the original song written by Eddie Floyd and Steve Cropper, and it was originally released by Eddie Floyd in 1966.
Amii Stewart's version of "Knock on Wood" became one of her signature songs and is often associated with the disco era. The song's upbeat tempo and catchy melody contributed to its success, and it remains a classic of that era. The expression "knock on wood" is a superstitious phrase used to ward off bad luck, and it's incorporated into the lyrics of the song.

Ya know... sometimes seeing the video to one of your favorite songs as a kid...ruins it. This is one of those you're better off just hearing and not seeing.

The original version was by Eddie Floyd and released in '66 on the Stax label. Amii's '79 version was a mega-disco hit and was in every DJ's rotation at clubs and roller rinks here in SoCal back then, a true disco classic. Thanks for showing the disco era some love guys, your channel is great! ☮️

1979. I was twelve or eleven. I remember hearing the song on Casey Kasem's Top 40 countdown. Yes, one hit wonder, but one hit is better than no hits. "Knock On Wood" was written by Eddie Floyd and Steve Cropper during a thunderstorm in 1966. Memphis soul music at its finest. The original is playlist for me. At any rate, for more Disco, check out some of these genre defining tunes -- "Le Freak" by Chic, "The Groove Line" by Heatwave, "Disco Inferno" by The Trammps, "That's the Way (I Like It)" by KC & The Sunshine Band, "Ring My Bell" by Anita Ward, "Shake Your Groove Thing" by Peaches & Herb, "Got to Be Real" by Cheryl Lynn, "Best of My Love" by The Emotions, "Car Wash" by Rose Royce, "Rock the Boat" by The Hues Corporation, "The Hustle" by Van McCoy, "Boogie Fever" by The Sylvers, "Turn the Beat Around" by Vicki Sue Robinson, and "I Love The Nightlife" by Alicia Bridges. Some of those songs hold up quite well, and that list is mostly complete, but it seems a shame not to include Earth, Wind & Fire, The Spinners, and The O'Jays because they were dropping diamonds back then, but they weren't Disco.

I'm so surprised this wasn't more firmly on your radar - freaking classic disco hit! Better though, is that it stands the test of time and I can still dig it now. It's among my faves from that time. On the topic of disco: please cover the BeeGees - their grooviest hit imo is "Jive Talkin'" though the video for that is pretty meh. The video for "Stayin' Alive" is worth a watch as it's so...well let's just say: the pants...I can't. I just can't. More disco please :)

Great song. For a similar vibe from around the same time you could look at/listen to the group Boney M. Or if you want to see another solo female singer/dancer of that era with a totally different sound - Kate Bush, especially her song Wuthering Heights.
