@@soglossytv9794 yes, most of them are, usually bought at local auctions. If this is PA, it’d be the New Holland auction. Notorious for kill-buyers. Anyway, yes, this horse is a Standardbred. I’m annoyed that they’ve got him “checked up” so high.

You see this in Ohio, too - not just PA. Our Holmes County has alot of Amish, along with several other rural counties. You even see buggies in shopping centers in Canton.

Morgantown PA walmart (which is outside//very close to Lancaster) has a whole barn devoted to the buggies. Up a road the bit is Shady Maple (a large buffet with a LOT of Amish//Mennonite staff) does as well.

There's bad ones in anything. I shoed buggy horses for a while, and of course live in amish country, and board 2 of my horses at an Amish stable. They will spoil you! When I broke my knee, they without me asking, paid my bills on all my horses, brought me dinner, 40 mile round trip. There kids are like my own Old order, Danners, and Swartzentroup. (Sp)

It is not uncommon for Amish to eat "english" food. They generally like Chick Fil A, but also like Sheetz MTO stuff, Subway is a favorite. I know a group of teens that went to a Thai place for a date night. It just really isn't that unusual for them to stop at places like this. I guess if you're not from an Amish area you just don't expect to see it. I've had lots of Amish meals served to me, they've all been excellent. Wedding meals are amazing.

Grey buggies are Amish, black buggies are mennonites. Yes, they use LED lights so they use less power. Many of the newer buggies use Dewalt 20V batteries that snap in just like the tools. Some of the buggies have air bag suspensions.

Had to breathe exhaust, had to chomp iron or steel, and had to have it's sense of awareness diminished so it couldn't see danger coming, you get the idea lol. Amish horses are treated with very little respect.
