Fun fact: the word "Mennonite " isn't used by the Omish. They are referred to as Beachy Omish. I live in IL, there a community near us in Arthur IL. They have a great discount store called Beachy's.

We have Beachie here in Seymour, Stockton Missouri another two hours away but mostly are family to each other.

Ranches are easy to buy if you want to live in rural areas of southern Missouri. Around Seymour the land values are relatively high though because it is only a half-hour drive to Springfield. My parents had 160 acres of land about 50 miles east of Seymour, near the town of Mountain View. When my mother died in 2014 I sold her place (with a very nice 3 bedroom house) for 350 thousand dollars. The countryside there looks a lot like the area you photographed. The Amish generally build their houses themselves and pass them on to the next generations. My aunt had several Amish friends. If you go around to country auctions you will often see groups of several Amish men in attendance with their buggies. That's the type of thing they might do for entertainment. It really is a completely separate culture. The unique lifestyle is a way of expressing their strong Christian beliefs. You may have noticed that most of them do not grow flowers. They consider it to be excessively prideful.

Great video! Visited Cashton, Wisconsin in 2017. Saw lots of Amish, their buggies have tops to them. Fascinating to see them.

It's funny that Amish has horses and buggy's but they pay people to ride in their vehicles. Cars ect...I know cause I know some people who used to drive them around. Mostly they went to near by towns and out of state. Out to East states such as Pennsylvania and Ohio. Thanks for video.

We had a private tour there,a lady drives you around in your car, her place is called “ Down a country road” She has 4 or 5 little cottages that she sells Amish made gifts. . We visited a home where they built their own furniture, a home where an elderly lady sold homemade quilts and homemade soap. Also a Amish cheese factory. They won’t let you take their photos though.

Little sister lives in Ohio. Holmes County has one of the largest Amish populations in the country.

This is so cool I didn’t even realize there was an Amish community there but if anyone can survive the apocalypse it’s the Amish! 😅Our blue merle Chihuahua Oscar was born here Do you years ago this August and we call him our alien dog. I actually grew up and graduated from high school here, now live in Fayetteville, AR but my parents, grandpa, and my brother live in Seymour. The Amish come to town for shopping (grocery store, hardware, liquor and beer, and even McDonalds), the bank, post office, etc. They also have church every other Sunday at a different home, and then on the other Sundays they’ll have a picnic or something fun as they do use it as a day of rest. They are good farmers, but the Amish there mostly make money building houses, and other contracted work. If you ever go to Big Cedar Lodge or Top of the Rock in Branson, they built all the huge wooden bridges. I did want to add that Amish people do get arrested pretty often. We also had a case a few years ago where two brothers were charged with sexually abusing their sister. The best time of year to visit is the second week of September. Seymour used to be know for it’s apple orchards that sadly no longer exist. There is an annual Apple Festival though, and it’s the busiest weekend all year. There are daily events, food and goods vendors, music and dancing. Let me know if you have any questions!

That's really neat! I know the Amish have a nich in high quality custom construction work. It's one of my travel goals to see Amish country myself as I have not yet been to any of their communities. I find them to be a quite fascinating group!

I lived there til 8th grade, was friends with two Amish brothers that lived almost next to hwy a. They taught me how to milk a cow by hand and they couldn't play on Sunday but we could still hang out. Their dad was a pervert towards my friends sisters. Good times growing up in and around seymour. Many are entrepreneurial in things like custom construction work, and they pool their resources to buy land as they are a very tight nit and strong, interdependent community.

They work together as a team to build everything themselves. They save paying others for labor, they are self sufficient.

They use hand tools working as a big teem MUCH faster then most workers. They bring in and carry out everything by horse drawn cart!
