Thursday,friday, & saturday are your prime days for lancaster county shopping & dining Amish & most Mennonite businesses are closed on sunday for religious reasons. Scrapple is great with ketchup, hot sauce maple syrup, jelly/ jam of any type or just by itsself & needs to be fried golden brown

I admire the fact that the Amish hold true to their ways throughout the decades. My sister used to live in Pennsylvania and was always telling me about their cuisine and their horse and buggy’s. Thanks so much for sharing this tour!

UA I love your videos I was once in a diner in Philly. A tourist couple came in. They were from Paris. They asked me to describe Scrapple. I told them it was Philly pate. They ordered it and loved the taste.

I really enjoy it! But apparently most people don't? I was told 7/10 people who don't usually eat it don't like it

Don't ask how the sausage is made!
@dingdongdaddy589 Жыл бұрын
@@uaeats- uhhmm, way worse than sausage. On the wrapper in the store it clearly states, hooves, pig snout, pig tongue….You never eat anything with the word crap in it.

You HAVE to try Bienner’s buffet next time you visit. It’s right next to the old(now closed) Dutch Haven Windmill on Route 30. Their buffet is smaller than Shady Maple, but it’s better, and cheaper.

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit! It's a nice, quick getaway from the Tri-State area. So, I absolutely love all things pork, but never had scrapple. I did just make SPAM hash on the griddle tho🤣 When I lived in England, I did enjoy the blood sausage, and it seems similar. I wonder if the Amish invented crop rotation, but it definitely works. Lets the soil rejuvenate a season. I have a bunch of great products from a brand down there called "Jake & Amos", and they ship. If any of your viewers want a sneak peek before they travel there. As always, another wonderful episode sir! Thank you for the tour!
@uaeats Жыл бұрын
True it is kind of like blood sausage, though I would compare it more so with spam. And yeah it's interesting that crop rotation was wisdom they were following back then!

One of my favorite of your videos! Grew up on shoofly pie (my father's favorite). We usually like to drizzle it with a warm lemon sauce and pair with some vanilla ice cream.

Oh man ice cream would have been amazing. Need to go back later this year and bring back some more

I use Miracle Whip on mine. Only kidding !!! 😂😂 I’ve been eating scrapple for over 40 years,and I’ve only ever put ketchup on it. I might have to try a piece with syrup though, but I believe I’ll probably stay with ketchup.

I miss Lancaster dearly 😢 but back in the 80s & early 90s when it wasn't such a tourist attraction yet that it presently is. #1. I wonder if scrapple can be comparable in taste & texture to a Cuban pork croquette. #2. I'm actually shocked you like shoo fly pie. I'd rather pecan pie any day. #3. Awesome job on the video with the scenery & music ! 👍 Def succeeded in making me want to go back.

If you want to try something that's really good and on the healthy side, go to an Amish farmer and try some raw milk. I bet you've never had milk with a grassy / gamey flavor

I don't like some of their contradictions, like how they don't use electricity but are happy to ride buses as long as someone else is driving it. But yeah overall I think their values of living a peaceful simple life is fascinating

Great review as always Lancaster PA Amish country is beautiful they have evolved and taken advantage of modern technology and whatnot with their restaurants and bakeries don't let that fool you but they do have a peaceful existence somewhat sheltered from the modern Madness of society so I guess you didn't find any pizza joints or a White Castle LOL
@uaeats Жыл бұрын
Oh there were loads of fast food joints. It seems the Amish and Mennonites love chain restaurants

My ex who was vegetarian at the time broke her no meat policy for scrapple. She had to have it cooked crispy to almost burnt but she loved it. I grew up about 20 miles from where you did this tour, and you make the classic mispronunciation of Lancaster County. To folks from the Southeastern Pennsylvania area, we pronounce Lancaster almost with a u sound for the second a in the word Lancaster. You would not be the first person to pronounce it like "caaster" as in the word broadcaster. Most locals pronounce it "custer". Just a local patois that instantly indicates you're a tourist. At least you didn't pronounce Amish as A-Mish. I think the Amish Farm you visited is run by Mennonites. The Mennonites are the inbetweeners between the Plain people (what the Amish call themselves) and the "English". Most times the Amish will hire Mennonites to drive them around in a car. I know that they hire Mennonites to run stands in the farmer's markets around NYC. At least the ones in Morning Side Heights and at Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn. Shady Maple is owned and operated by a Mennonite family. Here's a video about their history if you are interested. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2S4hntvnbuhnNU

Thanks for sharing all that! And scrapple must have been intense for a vegetarian so interesting she loved it. I actually did a video on Shady Maple right before this one so check it out if you're interested!

A lot of people like scrapple here in PA but I hate it and hated even more when I found out what it was 😭😭 I guess that would take my PA-card lol but I just can’t get down with it. I also don’t like shoofly pie 😅 3:05 I agree it tastes pretty much like a choco-pie!

I have no respect for you. Every time you say LAN-caster, another neighborhood gets gentrified. For those wondering, it’s LANC-aster, emphasis on the C. Yes, we will fight you if you say it wrong. No, we do not care how they pronounce it across the atlantic or in fake lancasters from out west. Southern Lanc is the place to be but stay out guys, you’re driving up the housing prices
