Congratulations on passing your GED! It is sad that you didn’t learn an science. I taught in Christian schools and when it came to teaching science I would introduce it by saying, “science is the study of God’s creation.”

I love that! Plus, there are a lot of Christian figures from past centuries who contributed to our present understanding of science. 😊

Congratulations on your GED. That's a real achievement. You'll have to think about what you're interested in and decide if there's something you'd like to pursue with more education.

Congratulations!! I also have left my 'old way of life' from where I grew up. I didn't get a good education either. And I was amazed at the things we did not know. my first 4 children went to public school, because I was determined that my children would not miss out. Even valentines parties mattered to me. But as I grew in faith, my husband and I realized secular education went against what we believed in our world view. So, our younger children are educated at home, in a Christ centered environment.

I add my congratulations to the many kind comments. Very interesting but very sad. To keep people basically ignorant so that you can control most of them is not just an Amish reality. Our government is doing the same thing increasingly. I guess you were never assigned or encouraged to read books? Reading has enriched my life incredibly. I hope you make up for what was denied you and read as much as you can!

The Amish do read books. But it's mostly the children read children books. We were never assigned to read any. We are only allowed to read certain books. Books are for entertainment in the Amish, not really education.

This is so interesting. The Amish community in Indiana that I am familiar with has their children attend public school through 8th grade and then they begin working full time within their community. I wonder if they learn science or are exempted from those classes? Thank you for your videos. I've learned so much and admire your kind and respectful approach.

Congratulations on your graduation...I learned that GED is much harder than high school, when helping my step daughter to earn hers, perhaps because the learning is so compressed.

Look- I understand what you’re saying here but it’s pathetic catching people in the comments that Think the American education system is even better at all. Every education system is a form of control in one way or another and teaches a certain way of life to get a certain outcome. Again, I understand what you’re trying to say, but it’s mind numbing that anyone thinks that their way is any better.

Many Christian parents now home school their children because of the education system's anti the Christian God culture. In science kids are force fed the atheistic 'science' of evolution which has no scientific basis at all and this can cause young people to start questioning the relevance of the Bible and eventually the Christian faith and by the time they go to uni, they have turned their backs on God and His truth. I left school without good grades for most subjects but that didn't stop me getting decent jobs, not having had any aspirations for a high flying career, which according to some Christian pastors is not what married women with children should be desiring. I would have done well in an Amish school as I was basically lazy and liked learning but not studying.

An interesting point is raised in the video of how somethings learned in public school may not appear to be applied in real life. However, it can still be a unifier in the sense of "everyone knows that" when talking to people educated through public school growing up. For example, the point made about bacteria being why there is a need to wash hands.

This is a tricky situation because public school is not really concerned with getting people to think for themselves it’s about submission to authority of ‘the experts’. Science is wrong a LOT. They taught us all sorts of BS in public school with zero foundations in reality but because ‘the experts’ say it’s so, it is the only ‘right’ answer.

Science isn't wrong so much as constantly evolving. If you approach understanding things and learning about them using scientific methods you're constantly theorizing and testing your theories. It's a way of thinking and gathering information. The most important thing a teacher can do for students is teach them how to learn, how to gather information and put it to use.

@ i remember being taught flat out lies like ‘you taste different things on different parts of your tongue’ even though it’s obviously untrue it still is taught from an authoritative perspective and some teachers even had you do ‘experiments’ on it.
