When I was younger we were stationed in Missouri. We always use to go into Amish country. They are some of the sweetest people you will ever meet. It was the first time being around predominantly white demographic but still be treated human. It was like wes we’re family. The food was so GOOD!! We use to get fresh produce and spices. Candy and deserts too! Amish potato salad is AMAZING! We came so often a the family who owned the store would have home cooked meals ready for us to take home ☺️ I miss the country 😩

Oh hon, never apologize for cooking good meals. No need to be "fancy" at all. Most people aren't. Thanks for giving me some new ideas as I've been wracking my brain for something different that wasn't fancy!

As an Appalachian mennonite, these videos certainly evoke lots of great memories of church suppers and childhood family meals. I love how different regions vary on style and ingredients and even after over 30 of homemaking, I still learn tips and try a few things to please my family's mealtime experience!! With the salad, I always layer but I also add peas, onions and top with the dressing. The longer it sits, the better it gets!! Your content is amazing Lynette - please don't doubt yourself. I cannot imagine how much effort goes into this video with cooking with the sweet baby and filming and having to change camera angles and making sure it's filming and watching that battery!! You inspire me and my young children will be happy to get meatballs and mashed potatoes later!!

Your cooking looks really good! I worked at an Obstetrician’s office for 9 years and one of the nurses who worked the phone talking to patients and she was Mennonite, my family went to her daughters wedding in their church. Anyway she was the nicest, funniest lady I’d ever meet. I loved working with her. She was so good with the patients. She came down with breast cancer and was just two months past getting her mammogram. She went through all of the treatment and was past 5 years so supposed to be cured but it came back on her chest wall where her scar was and she died from it. I miss her very much she was a great lady.

I always enjoy your cooking videos and I think you do a great job. Cooking has never been a favorite task of mine, either. For many years now I've used evaporated milk in my mashed potatoes and it really does make them taste richer and creamier. I've never added sour cream or cream cheese to mine, but it does sound delicious. One little secret that someone shared with me many years ago was to add just a bit of sugar to the mashed potatoes. It doesn't make them taste sweet at all but it does enhance the potato flavor. I want to try your brown butter tip the next time I make mashed potatoes. Thanks for your videos, Lynette!

Newbie here. First off your daughter is adorable. One thing I discovered with making creamy smooth mashed potatoes is keeping a water bath next to my cutting board and as soon as I cut up a potato it goes into the water bath. Then draining and rinsing the potatoes before putting in the boiling water. Not matter how well cooked the potatoes are if you skip this step then the mashed potatoes will be lumpy. Creamy smooth mashed potatoes is a #1 request of my husband so I had to figure this out. I don't have a recipe for my mashed potatoes either. Last year I was trying to teach my daughter and I was like um it's a little bit of this and that till it tastes right. I'll have to try the melted butter though, that looks amazing.

I have hyperemesis, so cooking, among other things, is just impossible for me. You're such a blessing, doing that for your friend. I never knew how much it means until someone did it for me. When I lived in Central New York, I had a lot of Mennonite neighbors. When I moved, I passed on the kids swing set, pool, trampoline and a LOT of fabric and craft supplies. Great neighbors although I noticed they dressed more typically Amish with the snood and long homemade dresses. They were all farmers with huge families and I was lucky enough to get to buy their roadside vegetables. I know they worked very hard and were awesome parents.

Please don't apologise for anything! You are doing a super filming job and I bet there are hundreds of cooks who measure, delete and add like you do! That said, I can't wait to make your versions of the meal you made today. :) Question: Do you use a small. medium or large scoop for the meatballs? I think when I make the salad, I will add a couple of ingredients like onions and fresh peas. You could make a meal video like this once a month and I would love it! Love and blessings to you all!

I'm from a family of 10 all together and there was no time for fancy when we were all growing up. I think your cooking skills are great. Talking about over mixing, here a hint, mix all you ingredients except the meat in a separate bowl first then add to the meat and you won't have to mix as much.

Lynette..one suggestion when cooking bacon in oven..take a good strong foil..line your pan but kind of arch up ridges in the foil to lay bacon across..this helps it crispin and then the bacon doesn't lay in it's own grease..and fold up foil, throw away..no dirty pan..no grease..no clean up...I have really found this so helpful

Love to see the cooking videos and love seeing your helpers! My brother was a chef who then opened a breakfast and lunch restaurant which he just retired from, so I can appreciate Kaden's interest. It could turn into a good livelihood. Never baked meatballs before, nor bacon. Always cook them in a frying pan. Will have to give both a try. Think I would put aluminum foil over the bacon so the oven doesn't get covered in the grease, but your oven looked immaculate. Is it self-cleaning? Glad to see your family back down with you!
