I came across the mayo cake recipe in an old recipe collection. My Mom said her Mom's was the best. I wanted to make it because I had run out of eggs, and there aren't any eggs or any oil in this recipe. Technically that's not correct, because mayonnaise is made from whipping together eggs and oil. But if you have mayo and don't have eggs or oil, you can still make cake.

There used to be an Amish restaurant in Calloway County Kentucky when I was a teenager. My grandparents lived in Calloway County and we would visit every summer and go to the Amish restaurant, the food was so good.

I used to live in St. Anna, Wisconsin. Across the street from me were Amish folks. While I was living there, they built a school and a bakery! The bread, cookies, pies, jams, everything! It was all so yummy! The Amish folks are so welcoming and nice people. I've also purchased a few puppies from them, in different locations in Wisconsin and the puppies were healthy and well socialized! I always was in awe, watching them plow their fields with those huge horses and also, seeing them go by in their buggies. Just really great people! And if you ask the ladies for how they made something, they usually will tell you. They always loved chatting with me. Someday, I have been dreaming about this for a long time, I hope to own an Amish quilt! I'm disabled now, so I know I'll never be able to afford it, but I still look at them and dream. Thank you for having this channel. I miss seeing the Amish.

Salad dressing cake was my Moms favorite cake to make and ours to eat! It was the most moist cake ever. She would make the simple buttercream frosting different ways - peanut but, chocolate, or vanilla were here 3 favorite ways. Thank you for being of back this memory for me!😊

The salad dressing cake is, in essence, the mayonnaise cake. It first showed up in the 1920's but really gained popularity during WW2 due to rationing of other ingredients & goods. It is positively the BEST chocolate cake you will ever have. Moist, dense & rich. My wife is a firm believer as well. When we were first dating... some 30 years ago now, I introduced her to my mother's recipe and she never turned back. Still making them to this day for special occasions or whenever you just need a little of that sinful goodness. 🤣 Try it with homemade orange or mint frosting. Awesome.

I did some googling, and found a recipe for it. It's Miracle Whip with mustard and sugar. It's similar to a cuban sub sandwich spread I like, only I never add sugar to it.

There is plenty of Shoofly pie here in Lancaster County. Some of the recipes are more of a wet bottom. Not every Shoofly tastes the same. I am a longtime resident of Northern Lancaster Co and I never heard of pouring milk over your Shoofly pie.
@judye28057 ай бұрын
I never heard of pouring milk on shoofly pie either. The wet bottom shoofly pie is the best and it's not dry. They are so delicious and sweet so you only need a small slice of pie.
@susanmiller58527 ай бұрын
@@judye2805 I agree with you Judy wet bottom is the best. When I made Shoofly pies a long time ago I would use king’s syrup instead of molasses. My daughter does the same. I think they taste better without molasses!
