Cody, I have watched and recommended your videos to several people. sometimes they complain that they are a little boring like when you were cutting the wooden dowels. What these people don't understand is that watching someone work in the job site and make mistakes and find work around and solutions is completely invaluable to us Youngblood homemakers. This training is the most that some of us will ever get. Thanks so much for all your effort and please don't edit out the small mundane details, they make a world of difference to some of us.

I have really enjoyed your series on modern homesteading. I especially enjoyed your recent video on how you are getting organized and you found it to be a Biblical principle. You have inspired me to become more organized and follow more Biblical principles. I can only imagine Jesus being inspired by Joseph's carpentry and learning humility from him as anyone who tries to to build or repair something must learn pretty quickly. Thanks again and I look forward to more great episodes. Sincerely, Les Edwards Columbia SC

Thanks for the entertainment Wranglerstar clan! I've seen every video and I enjoy them all. I'd rather watch the back catalog than TV. Sure hope the drone flying is as easy as you say. I bid a video job to do real estate video of buildings and I bought the big drone. I'm sure there will be a learning curve, but I've been flying RC for 25 years.

Saw mill joy, I so want to see that mill slicing the log into boards, what a rig!!! I remember working in a mill in northern Maine for a summer where I was a low saw man, (one guy on top of the log and one below) to pull the saw through the log to rough cut planking. I would have sold the neighbor's kid to have had a mill like this!!! What beautiful day to work outside...at last!

I've been studying Joel Salatin for 15 years and that anecdote is magnificent. He shares advice for someone new to the country side: if you're visiting a neighbor and he starts chatting, but you're in a hurry, best get over yourself and turn over a 5 gal pail and listen a while.

It's always nice to see the evolution of skills you're making as these various projects progress. It makes for a nice reminder and encouragement that there is not a line between the master and the beginner but a range and we as practitioners are somewhere in that range.

I have seen a Lucas Mill demo at a logging show in Bancroft, Ontario about 7 years ago. Nice rig with some cool features but limited functionality in some ways. Definitely better suited for some than others. I contemplated going with the Lucas but ended up with a typical bandsaw mill. Milling your own lumber is some of the most satisfying work one can do. I love the Wranglerstar videos and get a lot of good advice/information from them. My next projects are timber framed buildings for my cider press and maple sugar shack.

Cody - all the metric vs. imperial arguments in the comments aside...if you'll run a little beeswax or gulf wax on those 2x4's you're using for cribbing every so often, it'll help those aluminum chocks slide when you want them to.

That's interesting. The bark protects the tree while it's alive, but it's makes it rot more quickly when it's dead. It looks like those aluminum chocks have already had a run-in with a saw blade. When in doubt, blame the metric system. That works for me. Now that you have a Yanmar, the proverb still holds: Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. That's one of the major things that hooked me on your channel.

I've seen people marking the heart crack (with a sharpie) on either end of the log and then turning the log before milling so that the heart crack is as close to level with the saw cuts as possible. Apparently, this helps reduce twisting as it dries, as the heart crack is an indicator of the weak spot of the tree, and shows the way the cells in the wood are already shrinking.
