When 1.08 dropped I returned to dayz because base building is my soft spot . I didn’t know that the metal sheets now provide more protection as before they were very similar if not the same in base HP. I didn’t realise you couldn’t shoot locks off and ramming cars atm have no effect so this video was a massive eye opener , ty man 👊

No problem! I think car ramming would be pretty cool honestly and it ruins the car in the process so it seems pretty balanced to me. Code locks taking damage would be tough, it makes sense that it wouldn't take all that much damage realistically but would be a poor balance to the game.

What a lot of people don’t know, shovels aren’t always easy to find. So keep in mind, you can use a pickaxe for the same action. (Making a fence)

Built my first base this week but really wish I’d seen this video first. I struggled though it, took me two attempts, 2 hatchets, my platform stairs are inaccessible because I didn’t leave enough interior space, I had no idea you can’t add a roof to 4 walls and there’s a reasonable gap between two of the walls. The Xbox build system really isn’t particularly easy to use either. But overall pretty pleased with it...

You can use a pickaxe instead of a Shovel to dig the fence base and can use a hatchet on plank piles too :)

Build in apartments top floor. You can easily put 6 fences or mor at entrances of floors.

Hmmmm actually the 1.08 update makes those a bit more vulnerable. You don't have to be right in front of it anymore to raid, just shoot from another nearby roof or throw nades up through the ladder hole. Still a great location though, lots of visibility and easy to defend

I had a double apartment building with gates on every floor of both sides and still got raided. Nothings secure with the unlimited ammo glitch right now :(

@@MATTY-G-HULLis glitch still working? Maybe 1.09 will patch ot. I wound up putting 20 gates on the double building at the north of electro and then put 3 gates on the building on the side. My main loot is in glitched floor . So you need to know how to body hop. Been safe for 3 months now. 15 barrels 30 boxs 3 sea chests 2 tents etc.

Ever since the update building has been a little off, if building a fence that would clip against anything, like a ceiling or another fence you no longer can build. You'll get an option to build a lower or upper frame and that's it, sometimes a platform is the only option. And now with the changes to interact distance including the code lock you now have to plan your builds alot more

Another thing to note- fire does not damage wooden walls (go figure). Also, gas containers do not explode. There is no way to craft explosives in vanilla although we have everything necessary.

in pc vanilla i couldn't interact with fence/ gate from outside. code lock gives you an a prompt to attach it but didn't show in the inventory anymore, same for barbed wire.

I had this problem but it will be there you will just have to move around to find it if not then reset your character n by that I mean log out n log back in ... if it still continues then wait for server reset

You can only dismantle fences and its attachments from behind the fence. Not infront.

Great starting guide - but don't forget that the Pickaxe can also dig fence posts into the ground. Also there are a few more items that can be used on the lumber piles to get planks - handsaw for one and I think even the splitting axe works (don't quote me there) What about dismantling? :)

From what I can tell to dismantle you just need to destroy it. I couldn't find an option to dismantle from the inside and save the building supplies like you could before 1.08

I built a wall in the wrong place yesterday. Gave me the option of dismantling it with the hatchet. You lose a few planks & nails but get most of it back

Honestly dude if you make several accs you could easily make a temporary base close to the coast or wherever you can easily get back to if you die. Get a few crates to store ur stuff in and you will start to rack up supplies. Also make sure not to drink dirty pond water and then you’ll be fine. Me and my buddy got a base and we have plenty of water Bc there’s a pump nearby and we can hunt for food Bc animals aren’t too far away

I got raided with like 7 gates to loot but all of the gates were stacked up on this long corridor. I was wondering can bullets pass through other gates and damage the other gates behind it ?

It would depend I think but yes it is possible. Like I said in the video if you hit it right you can damage the frame and the wall so I don't see why a powerful round couldn't go through to another fence right behind it (with reduced damage most likely). This raid with 7 gates, was that before 1.08?

I don't think they can ruin the wire once it's attached, at least not from the outside. I don't believe you can repair wire either, you'd just have to search for better condition wire

@@AmishZed It was damaged yeah as it wasn't when i first built my base, its ok though i figured it out, if you disassemble the gate using pliers on the wire, leaving the wall up, (just make sure you are inside and have a second wire to hand lol) You can then add a new one, however i have a new problem now 😢 im being killed by an invisible hacker on the server im playing on, im thinking to download a cheat on alt account of some sort and find him to kill him, is this even possible?

Haha not much honestly. The counting was annoying but AsmondianA's guides helped a lot. Then 1.08 dropped when I was about an hour away from finishing the video, so I had to put it on hold to wait for it to hit stable and update the raiding part. THEN AFTER ALL OF THAT, I accidentally deleted all the narrations so I had to rerecord the the narrations for the whole thing lol. It was worth it though

One with few doors/ windows. The watermelon, fortress, or green stilted would all be good. Especially in green stilted cause you're slightly elevated which would make it harder to shoot through windows.

I don't know why they made base building so basic and limited in DayZ. If they had a proper freeform building machanic, i would come back to this game. I used to play the Epoch mod for the DayZ Arma 2 mod, which (although janky) had a proper building system.

IMPORTANT; when building and placing a gate the right hand side will be where the lock goes , I jus made a base in a garage and now cannot reach the code lock to open gate ... furious doesn't come close.
