As a combat flyer in ArmA 3, I highly recommend using the mouse controls as its the same as I'm used to. The minute movements you can make with a mouse can give finer control, and with a Little Bird and a lot of practice can be a great option for flying in tight places and emergency extractions of your salvage buddies when one of them just HAS to try his Deagle...

I actually hate the jumping in expansion. It can be abused so bad where you've got ppl hoping around the map for a speed boost. Really annoying during combat. Besides you can vault over fences

I am an older guy that has bent/slow fingers so instead of using the pre-assigned keys or mouse I set the keys for manuvering to w=forward s=reverse a=pittch left d=pitch right, up arrow=ascend, down arrow=descend, left arrow=yaw left, right arrow=yaw right. The mouse needs to be used to look around still but once positioned for flight its no longer needed and allows for to handed operation of the controls, with the keys not being so crunched together it gives me a lot better/easier control.. some say thats cheating but if it were a real helicopter the mouse would not exist in the cockpit nor would the keys so punk it out your way as I will. Using the autopilot to learn how to fly assigning the keys as shown makes it a lot easier to understand up down and turn as a flight stick and foot controls would, it becomes easier once you practice awhile then shut off the autopilot and be very gentle with the up and down arrows as they are sencitive when auto is off. Hope that helps someone else, its made flying in DayZ a lot easier and huge fun for me.

Just recently got back into Day-Z. Not sure if people will find this easier. In the setting turn off 'Auto-Hover Off In Flight', especially useful for when landing. This means you manually engage and disengage hover X is the hot key but you can do it with F in cockpit as well. You can fly with it on and the helo you are flying will constantly try to correct your movements to restabilize. You can go quick but nowhere near max speed (which you can reach with it off). Also engage Hover after starting the engine then with Shift you can set the hight the helo will take off to, you can also do this when landing with Z to decrease the set altitude, to slowly go to the ground.

Haven't been able to find a single heli on the Expansion Server I have been playing on. Looking forward to finally getting to try one, will be great to fly over locations I am learning to see them from a difference perspective so I can learn more of the parts of Chernarus I don't already know well

a proper landing fit for a combat environment takes the least amount of time to go from flying to landed while keeping forward speed...no auto hover decent from space...if you can`t fly without auto hover guys go use the offline mode...a final tip when landing fast is hold the descend button and use the nose pitch keys to control ur rate of descent and deceleration it should be a series of bleed speed manoeuvre in to level flight a speed of roughly 100\kmh-50 km\h levelling the helicopter killing all speed just before touch down and with u should be landing like a plane not a hanging bullet magnet using auto hover with a 5 min straight down decent

You can hold z and s, and then q or e based on which side your on and it should start to put the heli on its nose then just hold z and s and it should be unflipped

Use a wrench. If you hold a wrench in your hand you can flip cars and helis back on its feets/wheels 👍🏻

Arma3 Little bird pilot and a pretty good one, but for some reason I switch to mouse controls and it still moves the camera, which effectively keeps me bound to the keyboard. Is there something else I should be doing?. Obviously the settings in the Expansion mod are some what different now, but would love to be able to fly heli's like I do in Arma3

I'm finding when controlling the heli using keyboard only, the controls are super sensitive. Just tapping W will put the heli in an almost 90 degree roll forward and is way too much. The same goes for Yaw, it's hard to do precise movements.

no they are absolutely not out of place. it was like this in the mod aswell, only the russian helis are missing so far. the setting is still chernarus which was (prior to the outbreak) scene of a multi faction civil war. not only the russian and chernogorks military was involved but also the us marines as well as the UN. thats also the reason why you can find UN helmets for example. please get your facts right before complaining

Expansion is a PC mod. Just find an expansion server and download the mods. Both the game launcher and DayZ SA launcher auto download them for you
