5:05 in the army, we wear white pants, and camo tops so when we are walking in the woods, we emulate the snow on the ground and dark trees. You almost never wear complete white.

I can survive without bonfires. There is the stove + canister and 2 pots method. You keep canister in one pot and stove in another pot. As if you attach canister and stove when you log out canister despawn ( 1.10 glitch). You heat canister and keep one in your jacket and one in your pant and you can stay 12-20 minutes warm and not having to lit so many fires. I have spent whole nights inland in Chernarus without fires. The down is that you need to allow room in your inventory for this method. But it is the one that last the most.

You had me going "AEUEGHH!!!" when you grabbed the axe and went for the apple tree instead of the spruces right behind it. Also regarding camoflage: One really good trick is to wear dark/neutral tones on your torso and head and wear winter camo on your legs. In a forest this will make your torso blend with the trees and your legs blend in with the snowy ground. It also helps conceal you by making your profile harder to make out and provides counter shading.

Server I'm currently playing on only provides 1 piece of food and a tiny little knife. No axe or matches so surviving winter is nearly impossible once you lose that knife unless you're lucky enough to find another sharp object along your travels... It's so hard to find a good PVE server these days.

There's a military method of using a watch and the sun but idk how it works. I think snow drifts in the Arctic ice parts of the map blow north south if that helps but not 100% sure

You should really make a fire indoors during a blizzard. But sometimes if you are in some trees and get pretty close to them you can get the fire going. Make sure your matches are dry too

Trees show shade. The shade will make you cold . So try stay in some sun .

Questiom: with the new weather physics in Chenarus it obviously gets colder as you move north.....in Lavonia as you head south does that mean it's warmer ? Or is the weather based on difficulty as per where you find the tier 4 loot?

Cold is based on elevation among other things. Nadbor is 200-300 meters higher than river cities.

The white for me is not a big issue as the bits between the branches are white and the sky and the floor are close to whie. I think if you tuck into the tree and are covered by branches you will just look like the bits between the bits. I have survived on normal Chernarus wearing all white as it is just as confusing. think about it when you look at one of those trees there are equal parts that are light as well as dark. The branches are dark but the gaps between are white. So either way you are 50% exposed whatever you wear.

Let me show you the logic of stupidity here. #1 Standalone came out as a survival, nomad type of DayZ. It's striving to be as hardcore as possible. #2 They made x10 more military bases on Chernarus, overcrowded the map with guns. #3 Now they've introduced temperature mechanics, that require you to give your position away by making fires and other sh*t. Which means that all those people with guns - yep - they will have your position everytime you make a fire. They will kill you, and use your blood to warm up. Not to mention that fire you've just made. #4 Food is rotting as well. So now you cannot have a single moment of peace. Instead of fun, light mechanics of realism, that would make your journey in DayZ more atmospheric, now you're working like mule around the clock to survive. Not a moment of peace. Your temperature is low - oh sh*t i need to make a fire, because in the middle of my journey it might end, abruptly; Your food is rotting - you're forced to eat then go into towns - which puts you in direct danger, or you have to hunt - which puts you even in more danger, because of gunshots. You cannot even run around chernarus anymore, exploring, you have to run through the woods. If you run on an open field - woops - your temperature is low, you need a fire and more food - before you know it you're sidetracked by these annoying tasks and you find yourself taking care of your character like he's a 3 year old child - yep - for the 3rd time in 15 minutes. I can tell you one thing about temperature. Used to do jogging, 3-4 km every morning, winter time. Damp winters, cold gets to you faster, than if it was dry. -17 or -12 degrees celsius. After running 500 meters, you're so hot, you dont need winter clothing anymore - all you need is something to cover your face from the wind. Otherwise - you're god damn boiling in your running shoes, hoodie, t-shirt underneath and simple gym sweatpants. That's what I used to wear. And I'm talking winter here. Chernarus, original...What is it - September ? You're fully geared, warm clothes, constantly on the run, well fed - you run into an open field and you're cold ? This is not a survival game anymore, this is phantasy. Looks like devs are having problems with logic here. Im guessing they're taking their knowledge of survival from movies, not the god damn outdoors. They've oversaturated everything, made a pleasant dayz experience with fun mechanics that dont overload you INTO a god damn nightmare. You're constnatly annoyed by it. Just constant BS. After the engine update I had some hope, that they would come to their senses, get a few helicopters into the game. Perhaps bring back the dog. Perhaps some sort of "skill" dynamic, or hero-bandit dynamic, that would make you want to survive for longer, in order to achieve those bonuses. I could write down suggestions for days (nu pun intended). But it seems like they're just engineers. Software engineers without a vision, imagination or understanding. Everything goes along the lines "oh yeah, this sounds cool", they work for months to put it in, without any thought of how that affects gameplay. It's like someone down there at the studio is making a game for themselves. There's no understanding, no analysis on the orignal DayZ mod, WHY was it so successful overnight, WHY it had such a HUMONGOUS impact, and most of all - what little did it lack to become a true blockbuster. It's just sad. It's like a Michael Bay movie, except for oversatturation of exploasions, we have bullsh*t exploading.

I think your overthinking it. If we didn't get cold, we wouldn't have to worry about our hunger or hydration. It would get boring if you didn't have an objective. Sandbox games are fun don't get me wrong, but after 30 or so minutes I'm bored with it and want to play something else. Plus, if it was super hardcore then finding food would be nearly impossible with only animals to hunt for. That wouldn't be a game. I do think it's stupid that you have to eat 8 times a day to not starve. But I guess there is a reason they call it DayZ.

​@@Atj27 I really see no problem with temperature being in DayZ. If you're damp - you're damp. You should get cold. If you're underdressed - you should get cold. But if you have full gear for it - winter cap, ski mask, warm coat, warm boots - AND you're consntantly on the run, there's just no excuse for being cold. They're doing it on purpose. That is the problem here. Balance. They have absolutely no feeling for it. Instead of fixing things and improving things that people use 24/7 (cough - blatant clumsy 1stgrader placeholder inventory system - cough), they're introducing mechanics that are breaking the experience on the whole.
