These ten great benefits of chanting Amitabha, as taught in sutra, include protection from every danger and fear -- fire, water, falling, politics, prison, poisons, demons, evil beasts, disputes and war -- as well as support of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, purification of negative karmas, restful sleep, a peaceful mind, and rebirth in Amitabha's Pure Land.
What does the mantra mean? Om, which is short for AUM is similar to Namo, we are praising in this case the Enlightened Body, Speech and Mind of Amitabha.
Ami Deva is one of Amitabha's names, more or less translating as Buddha of Infinite Light. Deva means "shining one" of "Being of Light" (*Deva is masculine, Devi is feminine). Amita (shortened contextually to Ami) means "Infinite". Together -- Buddha of Infinite Light.
Hrih is the seed syllable of the illustrious compassionate Padma family. This family focus on teaching us the Wisdom of Discernment and teach us Compassion. They fight inner demons or poison of desires or attachments: always wanting this and that and never satisfied. For desires and attachments, then the eternally popular Amitabha Buddha in the West is the main practice recommended, with his Wisdom of Discernment.
Together, the mantra praises the body speech and mind of Amitabha and requests the wisdom of discernment and release from all obstacles through Hrih.

Thank you. Great question. Namo praises is literally praises or homages, which is a vast merit practice and connects us. It's is also part of Taking Refuge. Namo Amitabha Buddha literally means Homage to Amitabha Buddha. It's a treasure practice because we are paying homage to the great Buddha of the Lotus Family. This is a "merit practice" together with prostrating and making offerings, and so on. Vast good karma. Mantras are slightly different, although they are definitely homages as well, so there's the same level of "merit." They usually fall into two categories. Although most mantras "supplicate" (like a prayer) there are also more general "heart" mantras." Amitabha's mantra is a heart mantra, like the other ones in this Five Buddhas series. They usually start with OM which is shortcode for A-U-M which in commentary is "Homage to the Body Speech and Mind of the Buddha" (the Buddha we are paying Homage to usually comes next.) This is usually followed by the name. Buddha Names are "shortcode" for something much greater than an ego-based being. Their name in mantras stands for all the things they stand for -- in Amitabha's case this is compasssion and Discerning Wisdom, and much, much more. Heart mantras almost always end with the seed syllable of the family the Buddha belongs to. In the case of Amitabha's glorious Padma family this is HRIH (or Hri). This is why you often see Hri in Avalokiteshvara's mantra, Kurukulle's mantra and so on -- they are also Padma family. Heart mantras bring the blessings of the Buddha, not just merit, but also requesting the blessings of that Buddha or family. The final type are called Supplication mantras, the most famous of which would the mantras of the 21 Taras (each of those mantras supplicates (asks for) different blessings and activities. These usually include the "heart mantra" of the Buddha, but add Sanskrit vowels that carry a request (for instance, White Tara mantra for "long life blessings" and pacifying negativities. Yes, that is correct. Amitabha is the Buddha of the Padma family, the magnetizing family of the west, who include Avalokiteshvara (Guan Yin Pu Sa). Also, the same benefits for Hayagriva (Heruka of this family) or Kurukulla. The entire family is the same in terms of activities. Hope that helps. In kindness, BW
