What extraordinary erudition in Ghosh and how beautifully the interviewer exhorts him to express himself in these simple words!!! A whole new meaning of contemporary history for me!!

I can listen to Ghosh speak over and over. He speaks deeply to my soul. I hope more people will choose to hear him speak.

I spent some precious time reading a book by this guy and was not very surprised when I found out it was an ad for Hizballah. Love guys who point out moral bankruptcy in others but don't relate to the beam in their own eye.

Didn't like the author's constant references to 'vitalism'. Should rename the book "A Soixante-huitard in Banda." The intentional omissions of mentioning anything related to the Indonesia is notable too. But other than that, decent read.

Amitav Ghosh says no words on Caste, a system of exploitation which predates imperialism. He points at white men, but forgets role of his own caste and religion.

The atrocities we committed in the name of caste and religion is something we still heap upon our selves, it pales in comparison to what happened over in Indonesia, Burma, India etc. I was in Banda Archipelago just a few years ago, beautiful islands, people living off the sea and land (still beach combing in some places)which is never easy. One can still feel the old ghosts lingering :) The bloodshed, all for something that grows on a tree shows how little anything else meant. Not much has changed . Has it?

He also didn't say anything about the Master-Serf relations of late Romanov Russia. Or the feudalism of Nippon.
