We should credit Ritwik Ghatak for making the film Titas ekti nodir naam / The River Called Titas. It addresses climate change as the river is dried out and life changes for many.

5 years later, this is still very relevant to us as us students are being asked to write a critical review on Amitav Ghosh's work. An excellent read, if I was to say so myself.

Great to be challenged like this with such unconventional thinking but for goodness' sake - please let us just watch Mr Ghosh without the tirade of flashy distractions, cut-aways etc. Many thanks for sharing - Dave

If Dr. Amitav Ghosh is critical of the only the lawn that the rich require and the water sprinkling required for it want about the huge cricket grounds that have been prepared for IPL and the water required ( in the summer season) to keep it green ,and who is really becoming richer by this the BCCI that all.

I think the main reason for denial is twofold, namely: 1. it is too technical for most people to understand, and 2. most people have been led to think you have to believe that climate change is real (ie manmade and un-natural) in order to take action on it! What this view, propagated by the media, blinkers the public to, is: climate change, natural or manmade, is happening and we have to prepare for the fallout.

A really really important book by Ghosh. Deserves to be widely read. And then read again. The subject matter is so spooky that you can’t stop thinking about it once you read it. And then you think why do you get to read so little of such stuff.

One thing I would ask: lawns...aren't they important to help with climate change, to cool the land?

Lawns need water to be provided externally and a really water intensive investment. A naturally growing area of land area on the hand would not need water and would retain soil from erosion and keep water temperature right.
