Story 1: I could never imagine leaving my kids anywhere just to shop. I love being around my kids and want to be as involved as I can. Story 2: From the grandfather side of it, when you really screw up raising your kids and they are now adults, all you can do is apologies to them, ask for forgiveness, and then leave them alone until they make the next step in reconciliation. To go behind his son's back and get connected with the wife like that is terrible. As for the wife, she showed that she does not respect her husband at all. As the saying goes, women want to be loved while men want to be respected. Story 3: Something that I notice is missing is that you never talked about your future husband's opinion. You are about to marry him so his opinion should be on the top of your list to receive. As for actually buying the dress, you are write that, to be fair, if you made everyone else buy their own dress, then she should have to buy it as well. Story 4: That OG took a very annoying situation with a kid and made that kid's day in order to get back at the mom. I love it! Story 5: Nope, thou art not the jerk. I enjoy stories like this one as well as Story 4 as it shows how to handle annoying people while remaining calm and in control. I try to teach my kids that, by causing an emotional outburst due to someone, you are giving them control over your emotions and that they need to learn to take deep breathes and either learn to calm down or step away for a while until they are calm.

Story 1: i'm kinda ok with leaving an adolescent (like, 15/16yo) at a bookstore or even let them play on the game console present in a mall while i do my shopping (are there still the console in it? i don't see a lot these days) but if they are like 10/12/13, it's a big NO.

First story sounds similar to a story that used a bookstore as a babysitter while she got drunk , and they managed to coax the kid to give out the phone numbers of both parents, i don’t think they couldn’t get ahold of the mother, but they got ahold of the dad

For the last story, It's not selfish that you don't want kids or be involved with them as not everyone wants to be a parent so I can understand to an extent. However, I do think that expecting your kids to want to celebrate with you when you haven't been involved is really idiotic on the mother's part. If she really didn't want kids then it is kinda of weird that she would agree to have them in the first place.

I disagree. She picked a dress over double the price of all the other bridesmaids, while it was known that bridesmaids were paying for their own. OP also said that she'd known for two years at that point. It doesn't say if the MoH paid for all her bridesmaid's dresses or just OP's during her wedding. It should have bring brought up long before when the dresses were picked out. OP also paid/is paying for multiple hotel rooms for the bridesmaids who live out of town. That's way more expensive than the dresses.

It could've easily been she chose something around the same price as what she bought for OP. Plus nobody said that OP needed to pay for the other bridesmaids. Just tell them "She bought me my dress for her wedding and I'm just returning the favor" because people should be able to understand that.
