I am artist myself and like to draw. I know that burnouts can happen. It helps to be in a good mental mind set to keep going. This boss sounds toxic to the artist.

Too many bosses like this are one reason why so many companies complain of worker shortages. "Fast paced work environment" is likely code for a job where they crack the whip to make you bust your hump for low pay and no respect.

He probably became the new boss due to: Nepotism - assuming the founder/owner chose him due to family relation. Social connections/networking- He managed to get a good network of people who must have recommended him to their superiors. Thus, eventually promoting him, he might have good social connections, but not necessarily the skill of the job. Lack of other employees - he was probably the only one with enough “experience” to do the new position. Final thoughts: Lack of understanding/greed- Since this guy was part of the administration side of the company. He doesn’t get that an artwork mural isn’t the same as an excel or word document. A mural requires larger space to utilize, can be delayed due to weather conditions, and is naturally going to take longer. The guy never picked up a paintbrush or a construction tool in his life or have the basic understanding how paint works. I get that time is money, and thus wanted to maximize profit. But some creations you need more time to craft, or else it shows and becomes disastrous.

Some people are very competent in certain areas and get such inflated egos from it that they wrongfully and arrogantly assume that it translates to other areas in which they're extremely lacking. Dude should've either gave one of the veteran muralists a promotion to bid jobs and supervise the work, found a new partner with the same skillset as the boss that retired, or sold/liquidated the company smh. There's nothing more frustrating than working for someone that doesn't know what they're doing and abuses their employees. I'm glad they taught him a lesson in the end though 🤣

About the 3rd story, in an excel file, you can have different sheets, but when you have too many sheets, excel struggles to handle them. What the guy did was seperating some/all sheets in different files so excel would handle them better.

I worked in a small town grocery store while in my teens. There was an older woman who drove a new expensive car that came in several times a week. Well, she STANK! She smelled like a combination of old urine, feces and body odor. One coworker literally followed her around with a rolling mop bucket and mop, mopping up the diarrhea and urine as she walked down the aisles. Finally they would make her sit on a fold up chair as one of us would do her shopping then the mop guy would carry the chair out to the alley and hose it off. I carried her groceries out to her car and when I opened the door the stench made me gag. After that we insisted on putting her groceries into her trunk. She finally got banned from the store. This woman was quite wealthy and lived in an expensive house. I heard that after she died, decades later, the house was torn down because the smell had permeated the walls and floors and no amount of cleaning could get rid of it. Her relatives said they had had her checked by doctors and except for her refusing to use a toilet or bathe she was sane.

Sanitizer guy, NTJ. I had a online grocery job where I loaded groceries into cars. We had this one customer, let’s call him J who was very polite, always said thanks and had a smile. Problem was that he smelled really bad and his car was filthy. No joke, the first time I was loading groceries into his car, there were rodent droppings in the trunk, flies buzzing in the back seat, and you couldn't breathe in the direction of his car without feeling sick. I sanitized my arms for a while after I got back inside.

I told her, “Ma’am your money is wet, and I will not handle that mess.“ She told my boss, and he asked me why I wouldn’t take her money. I told him “let her give you her money“ he looked horrified. Working retail, we should have: hand sanitizer, access to a sink and soap every hour, face masks, rubber gloves, and sanitizing wipes. Occasionally we need hazmat suits too. Public bathrooms should have sanitizing wipes in every stall so you can wipe the seat off. Because nobody wants to sit in someone else's drips. You can't even put a seat protector down until it's dry from the drips. But, I know you can't put wipes in the stalls, idiots would flush them. People are nasty. ☮️🖖

I worked at Walmart during the summer after high school. I was fitting room. One day I walked in after someone left and there was a used adult diaper sitting on the bench. With the clothes they had tried on. There was pee and shit smeared on the bench. I called my manager and we closed the fitting rooms for an hour and a half while the janitors scrubbed the rooms.

I can relate with the last story. I work at a small nail saloon before and encounter this beautiful middle age lady. She ask for pedicure service and i say okay. And as soon as she opens her shoes... I almost fainted. Thankfully i wear a mask so i didn't have to show her my ugly face when the smell of her feet reach my nose. And thankfully she is wayyy to busy with her phone that she didn't notice my eyes watering because of the smell. But i did manage to complete my job. But as soon she was no longer in sight i went to the toilet and while almost crying i wash my hands and i also have to borrow shirt from a friend because the smell get to my work clothes. It took me weeks to forget the smell and after that, i wear apron when i do pedicures 😅

STORY 2: at least the woman wasn’t a total Karen when she arrived at the box office. LAST STORY: OMG! I use to work at a tax (green block) place in Louisiana back in the late 90’s so I can relate to the OP. We would get clients come in from the Bayou, they would only come to town twice a year and that was during tax season. We got some that looked like they haven’t taken a shower in years or seen another human other than family either, the smell would be so bad after their appointments and after they returned to get their checks that we would have to keep every door and window open for the rest of the week. Some cases were so bad we had to shut down for a day or two to air out and sanitize the office.

Well I'll try and put it to you simply when it comes to the story about Excel. You take a normal doorway, have five normal people walk through it, then you have a person who's 1,000 lb trying to fit through that same doorway. You're going to have trouble...
@crazyt1483

Think of the file like a A-Z/Road Atlas. Normally you have pages in the Atlas which are the excel sheets then you have the whole file which is a book, of corse if you are on a long trip it would be convenient to plop everything on a single page but if you do that over and over your a-z looses how easy it is to work with. Or if you are driving across a country /state border you might not want to switch and instead combine it into one book with page references changed to fit. If you are someone who travels a lot you would end up with a book that has whole of continental Europe and continental Asia’s (or however it’s referenced) road network, now try handling and carrying that. Same idea of the excell file.

Like, this dude didn't shave, let his hair grow out like a hippie, of course it was all greasy af, not to mention the claws he had like some Windego creature because he never clipped his nails either. Only thing clean about him was his glasses so he could see, but otherwise an disgusting mess to be around. Even better the dude's humor was all about puns, so he's really in the trash tier...wasn't until company layoffs did the guy end up leaving. It was just...so gross.

Okay this happened about a decade ago so I'm comfortable telling the story and I know my wife wouldn't mind either because it happened to her. She worked in the shoe department for JCPenney, and once again I'm okay with living their name because they practically don't exist anymore either. She had to move over to the men's department to help out because two of the people had called off because our store was crap and was going out of business. This old guy walks in wanting to buy underwear, so my wife asked him what size did he wear and she could point him in the right direction. This old dude in the middle of the store drops his pants and asks her to check the tag on his underwear. If you're all wondering, no she didn't... But I think one of the managers had to because she left that section
