I've dealt with quite a few people like that during many of my customer service jobs in my lifetime. Luckily I had a wonderful woman who trained when I was younger taught me a trick of thinking, "THANK GOD I DON'T HAVE TO LIVE WITH OR NEAR THIS PERSON". Has helped tremendously.

Story 1: If I was one of the other customers watching this, I wouldn’t have waited until the customer left to start clapping, I would have been clapping and cheering loudly as the angry customer was walking away just as icing on the cake to his ego. Stupidity needs to be publicly pointed out and stamped out ruthlessly.

I had something similar happen when I used to work at Burger King, only the guy wasn't an ass about it. Through the drive-thru crying to use a coupon but it only had two digits on it when Burger King coupons have four digits, I asked him to pull around thinking maybe the other numbers were accidentally cut off and I can just look around and see if I have a spare one I can use just the numbers. He gives me the coupon I look at it and then look at him with the most serious face I can muster and say "Sir this is a Wendy's coupon" he took a coupon back apologizing profusely and laughing he headed to Wendy's and I had a story I would constantly tell new hires for the next 6 years

During the first story I was really upset that the kid wasn't going to get his stuff. I know I've heard stories before where the guy or the mom gets so mad she just slams everything down and walks out of the store without buying anything, and honestly one of them just left while leaving the child there for a couple minutes. I am happy the kid get his Xbox

Story 1: I sometimes deal with customers like that but not that often Congratulations on being an Employee of the Season For me, I'm right now an Employee of the Month at work for helping out shoveling out water from the Main Entrance at work after a Fire Sprinkler broke due to Extreme Cold Temperatures (around -30'C)

I had something similar to the Target story, but not quite to that extent. I used to work drive thru at Steak n Shake, which, despite the drive thru and carry out options, is not a fast food place. They are a restaurant, and take time to cook the food instead of just grabbing stuff from under a heating lamp like McDonalds or Burger King. That being said, my managers still cared about our drive times and wanted to keep them as low as possible. We were timed, and I was the fastest drive thru attendant we had. I prided myself in my low drive times, and the accuracy of my orders. We served chicken fingers, which were kept frozen and cooked to order, and they took about 5 minutes to cook. Well, I say about, but the timer was actually 5 minutes. If someone ordered them, with no one else in front of them, we would make sure to let them know it would be a few minutes before they were ready, and to apologize for the wait. Additionally, if someone is behind them with a faster order that can be done in the meantime, we would ask them to pull up front so we can get the other order out and keep the line moving. Most people are understanding, but not this Karen. It's early morning and still kind of slow when Karen rolls up to the speaker and orders 2 orders of chicken fingers and fries. As soon as she gives me the order for chicken, I immediately go to drop the chicken in the fryer as I continue to take her order for drinks and such. I finish ringing her order out, tell her the total, and advise her to pull around. I drop her fries in the fryer, finish making her drinks, and am about to pull her order up to ring her out, when another customer pulls up and orders a large Coke, and that's it. I had the price memorized, so I grab the cup and fill it with ice while telling him the price, and am just putting it on the fountain and pressing the auto-fill button when I ask him to pull around. I then open my window and take the lady's money, and with the window still open, I let her know it's going to be a few more minutes for her chicken. I hand her back her card and receipt, and ask her to pull up since the gentleman behind her only has a Coke, and she scoffs. Karen: Why do I have to wait? This is drive thru. Me: I'm sorry, chicken takes 5 minutes to cook, and as you can see, I already have the next person's order done and waiting. Karen scoffs again. Karen: You should be like McDonalds and just have it ready for me when I order it. Me: I'm sorry Ma'am, but our food is cooked fresh to order. Karen: Fine, whatever. Karen pulls forward, and I get the gentleman his Coke. As I'm finishing ringing him up, I hear the timer go off on the lady's fries, and go to pull them up while waiting another minute for the chicken. I get the fries in the cup, pull up the chicken and place them in a cup, grab her sauce, and take the order out to her. I take it out and hand it to her, apologize for the wait, and she just leaves without a word. Sorry, there was no applause, and no riveting moment where I put her in her place for expecting us to read her mind and know she would need chicken 5 minutes before she got there.

I know the feeling with the server. This is exactly what happened to me when I was working at Applebees , they kept me on Carside Togo and not even putting me on the floor . I had the same treatment at Jimmy John's. They left me on the register for literally 9 months straight. Which in itself Is fine. But the fact they upright refused to train me in the sandwich line, or anything else, and there were people newer than me who did the line more than me, absolutely infuriated me. Fuck Jimmy Johns. How Is that not enough me and my wife make that together have our home for our kids and multiple vehicles and we’re doing great but anyways I wanna point out a big red flag the wife has is. So it was ok the husband money when he was bringing home the cash from working the factory job but soon as she got more money than it wasn’t good enough anymore in this relationship plus she’s crying that it changed on there paying because she has more debt than he does and she doesn’t want to paying her side of the house like she promised and she wants the husband to pick up slack which in honestly she made it very obvious what money she makes is her not there’s even tho they live together and been together doesn’t sound like they have the same goals I say y’all both break up and find someone that you have more in common

Target was my retail Vietnam. I was a “cart attendant”, and would do my best to stay out in the parking lot, gathering carts and avoiding customers (I will NOT call them “Guests”). And this was in Southern California in late summer/early fall, in a bad neighborhood. That’s how badly I wanted to avoid them and my stupid bosses. I wore a sun hat, neckerchief (to keep the sun off of my neck and my face), sunglasses, bright reflective vest, and hand washable work gloves because of the carts being so feculent. I ignored my walkie talkie constantly when my stupid bosses would demand I come in and do what was out of my job limits, and when they would confront me in the store I would say “You don’t have the power to hire and fire, nor do you sign my paycheck. Shut the f* up!”
