Grimlock 84 I read years ago that the actual home was moved over to the next lot as well. Not sure if this is true. Sounds like that would be a hassle.

@@CDS-mk9jw they changed the address to 118 instead of 112. But they didn't move the house..also they changed the windows and color from black to yellow.

I'm from Toms River and I watched some of the filming of the first movie at the house. The house was originally facing Dock Street where it curves into Water Street. Not sure when it was moved. I also went to see the movie when it premiered in Toms River at the Dover Theater (now gone). I remember lots of laughs throughout the movie as everyone recognized the various familiar locations including the Thomas Mathis bridge leading to Seaside Heights, the Town Hall, Washington Street, Hooper/Oak Ave, the tavern, among others.

I know this house very well and I went to the church back in the mid and late 70's I went to the St. Peters Catholic school right behind the church and watched them film both the Amityville Horror and the possession when they put gas pipe lines to create a fire in one scene when the boy ran from the priest. The house in Toms River was moved from the corner for a lot of people where getting in to accidents stopping in the road with a curve in it to take pictures. They lifted the house and moved it a few hundred feet back then built another home in its place. I lived in Point Pleasant Beach from 1974 till 1985 and worked at Six Flags Great Adventure and on the railroad that went right by the church.

They turned it 90 degrees, so that the long side faces the street. Anyway, when I went past it in the late 90s, it was overgrown with tall bushes/trees...so you could only catch a glimpse of it from the street.

The house was moved one or two lots over from Water Street. Also in the film, James Brolin drives his motorcycle past the Bay Lea Golf Course and the adjacent church. Brolin also was filmed walking out of the Actual town hall for Toms River with the reference material pertaining to the house’s history.

That scene was filmed at the Georgian Court University grounds in Lakewood, NJ. You mean, when the order priest became blind? And the younger priest came to visit him? Was there a pond of water in the scene? If so, that was filmed at Georgian Court University in Lakewood.

Mostly accurate, except a few things like the 112 Ocean Ave. vs 108 Ocean Ave thing. One interesting this is...Toms River, NJ is in Ocean County, NJ and the Amityville House is on Ocean Ave.

I haven't experienced anything like that yet, but I get it. I would probably get tired of the people who ring the doorbell, ask to come inside (or worse) on a regular basis. There are those who say, "You live in a special house like that, you should expect it, otherwise move." I may not want to move. Maybe this house has been in the family for generations. That's why I try to be as respectful as possible. I get the evil eye once in a while, but then I never stick around for more than a few minutes either.

Actually the boathouse was there. I just couldn't film it from the street because the pool guy was there and was watching me. We had to get out of there before we made spectacles of ourselves. They chose that house in NJ to use in the movie because it was on the water, with the boathouse. Thanks for watching!
