AMK F 14D Tomcat Part 4

I am really enjoying your build. Due to the various fit issues you have indicated, I will keep to my (more expensive) Tamiya kits. However , the things that I do like in the AMK kit are the detailed "open wings" and decal sheet.

Thanks! Now Tamiya just released a new boxing of their F-14 with the open wings, so now even more reason to stick with them.

Awesome job explaining as you build. The Tomcat is one of my favorite fighter jets. I haven't built models since Topgun came out in 1986. Back in the day I used the infamous orange testors glue and made a bloody mess of things. Looking to get back into the craft and improving my skills. Thanks for the videos. Keep em coming!

I also used to use the Orange Testors tube glue until recently. Old habits can be difficult to get rid of. But, I'm glad to hear you are coming back into the hobby. I'm happy to help in any way I can. If there is something you are looking to learn how to do I'd be happy to do a video.

I appreciate your videos. My kids got me a Tomcat kit for Christmas, it’s an older Revell kit and doesn’t have this detail or engineering. I’m doing my best to make it as nice as I can, but I’m looking forward to a kit like this. Just curious why you modeled the intake ramps for supersonic, but the wings swept forward. Pretty sure the Tomcat can’t do supersonic with the wings forward, and certainly not with flaps down. LOL Looking good so far - interested to see the finished effort

Hey thanks for the view, I wish you luck on your tomcat. This kit for me was also a gift from my family! As for the intake ramps, the short of it is "because I could". Ha ha. But seriously though, there are so many great options on this kit and I wanted to play around with all of them. My original idea was to think about this kit as if it were a static display at an airshow. What would I want to show off? I thought it looked more interesting with the ramps down than up. Cheers!

@@HammerheadModelMaking can’t argue with that. I’m not one that gets all amped up when a modeler doesn’t build a 100% accurate model. I see this as partly an art, so there should be some freedom to build it like you want. I built a 1/72 Tomcat with gear, flaps, slats and hook down and the elevators pitched down as if it were in the landing attitude. Just because ... Take care

I agree with you, this is somewhat a form of art. I'm curious, which 72nd scale Tomcat did you build?

@@HammerheadModelMaking I built the Hasegawa Super Tomcat kit (51512). The one with the demo colors; white with red markings. It was one of my first kits after getting back into modeling and starting to use an airbrush. The white color was tough for me the get right, and I had some issues with the large decals. Overall it’s probably a 7/10, but I like it.
