13:35 that cymbal spinning and saxophone combo was incredible. Eddie's smile at the end says it all

Completely unrelated perhaps, no, surely; but I can't help thinking of Tristan Murail.
@loganperry2 жыл бұрын
Unrelated in the sense that one is a spectral composer and AMM is free music, but I think they probably share opinions on the purpose of music and the reasons they both create are probably similar. Just speculation.
@Alison-wq9el7 ай бұрын
i think possibly two sides of the same coin, both a strict rejection of the traditional composed form yet AMM looks inside the souls of us people through improvisation , while Murail looks inside the soul of sounds themselves through spectral analysis, opposite but the same in a sense love both !

ive been to some of these gigs, been listening to weird music for 30 years. whenever im at a gig i look around at the audience and wonder if we are all thinking the same thing, is this music utter crap, damn i need to use the loo, and i really cant wait til its over so i can go and have a pint and something to eat.... and the girls who have been dragged to these things are a picture... but, when listening at home horizontally , with a decent set of headphones, half asleep sometimes, this music does do something, it takes you places. yes perhaps anyone could play this stuff but we didnt, and they did.

When you listen to it at home with headphones, if you concentrate hard enough, it almost seems not pretentious at all!

I always find that when I am at these experimental gigs stood up I am absolutely miserable because all I can notice is the lactic acid building up in my sore legs as I try not to move and stare at the performers, and I think of, like you mention, the perceptions of those bored around me. However when I manage to nab a seat during the intermission I can really enjoy the music. So I do think comfort is required to enjoy this kind of music. Unless it was socially acceptable to move around and dance to it
