Agree, grounding was in Russian port (or near) so duty must be to take shortest route to safety - return to port. Port must have facilities to handle the cargo and Malta is an odd choice as it requires passing through straight of Gibraltar.

Agree with the comments why it didn't return to a Russian port. Very odd indeed

Malta could let it in, and have the fireworks of the century.

Nothing new there, then. They have fireworks almost every day as neighbouring villages face off. Often only separated by the width of a street.

The Canary islands may have a legitimate use for it- I believe they are volcanic islands, so probably don't have the most fertile soils. But it is still a massive amount to ship at one time. I see she is making 8.6kts- obviously not under tow, but slower than I would expect for a cruise speed.

Malta not in Canaries !!!!!!!

Actually, volcanic soils are the most fertile soils on earth.

After heading north out of Tromso it was as close as 600km from the Barent’s Sea and access to the large safe Russian port Murmansk….. it has travelled at least x4 times that distance since then…..2,400Km! Yes, you would wonder why not go home to a safe port.
