I thought they were biting off a lot more than they could chew, They were talking about the ships horn one day and saying they were going to replace all the corroded bolts on the cast aluminium with stainless steel ones. I mentioned they needed to get educated on the "table of nobility" regarding what metals should be directly adjacent one another to keep galvanic corrosion to a minimum ,but it seemed like something someone restoring a large ship should have known already. Shame, hope it gets saved, but you cant save them all.

I remember driving Hwy 160 often in 2007-2008ish when she was docked south of the Rio Vista Bridge, river right, in the Sacramento River for awhile; I shared the owner’s dream of being rich and fixing her up-but he actually did it whereas my fantasy was just passing time daydreaming and driving. If I remember correctly, I think she still had her former namesake “Xanadu” or “Faithful” painted on the bow but I can’t remember which one. The ship’s history piqued my interest enough back then to search the internet where I think I read it was dead towed from Alameda area after repurposing efforts failed there. She was then moved to current location in Potato Slough (situated between Rio Vista and Stockton, Ca) where renovations occurred as well sadly where she partially sank. She’s visible moored in Potato Slough on Google Maps. Likewise, I’m too lazy to Google right now, but a simple search will cite the vessels history as a yacht in a James Bond movie as well later on the not so glamorous role as a missionary function or housed homeless or something like that, and consequently some of her original ornamentation was stripped. To me she has nice lines and looks like a boat Aristotle Onassis would anchor off the coast of Monaco…good luck to all involved.

What is interesting that alongside this now refloated ship is a 90% sunk minesweeper that no one seems worried about, just another piece of junk

Here you go,in plain English. Lithium batteries are regulated as a hazardous material under the U.S. Department of Transportation's ( DOT ) Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR; 49 C.F.R., Parts 171-180). Exposure to Lithium Batteries can cause loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. -- Lithium can cause headache, muscle weakness, twitching, blurred vision, loss of coordination, tremors, confusion, seizures and coma. This isn't for me or my family.

One of the biggest expenses nowadays is the doc fees. Years ago you could buy a low-cost boat and keep it somewhere for practically nothing but now it costs a fortune to dock a boat.

My involvement with the commercial fishing industry spans almost 50 years and I honestly have no use for farmed fish, shrimp or crab. I refuse to support any questionable products by not ordering fish in a restaurant where I do not know the source. The quality is not comparable and the dyes they use to 'brighten' salmon to make it look like the real deal are sickening. My days of buying any seafood are limited to straight off the boat purchases or from long time trusted sources near the fishery. There are some independent processors in Alaska that will ship to the lower 48 but be careful as some are simply fronts for offshore fish farms. As for the Louisiana Gulf Coast, whenever down there I just look up my second cousin's uncle on his mother's side whose niece by marriage has a brother-in-law that is a shrimper. Hell, we Cajuns are just one big family! Personally I would rather eat fake crab, shrimp or lobster made from Alaska Pollack surimi than any farm raised product.

This sends a clear message to our adversaries that we are NOT capable of defending the 1st and 2nd Island Chains (INDOPACOM). It is a failure on a monumental scale. Now all the cavemen houthi with remote controlled airplanes (calling them drones is a bit of a stretch) know that all they have to do is take out an Oiler, especially when it's the ONLY ONE IN THEATER, and it cripples a Carrier Strike Group or Fleet. Nevermind the lack of Merchant Mariners, downsizing of Mil Sealift and Gutting of Maritime Pre-Positioning capability. We won't need that if we can't keep ships running, or planes in the air. Remember in 2022 when Russian convoys ran out of fuel and food on the rd to Kiev? Or the failed Trident pier off Gaza (An Army Private in that MOS could have told everyone that was a bad plan) ? This is an even bigger blunder. This is why "Deterrence" isn't deterring Iran, houthi, etc. This is why "Freedom of Navigation" has NOT been secured in the Red Sea. This is how you give CCP or N. Korea confidence to make a move...This is how you lose a war.

My tiny experience with owning boats is put the money into the boat and get as much use as possible. The overall cost is not something easy to calculate so coming up with a budget is only based on how deep are your pockets. He needed investors not KZbin fans to get this boat floating.

I have been following the story for years. I always thought Chris had bitten off more than he could chew, it's very easy to drastically underestimate the amount of work ahead if you knew nothing about ships. Even if it were in perfect condition when he bought it, it would have been more work to maintain than any one person could do. His enthusiasm, dedication and incredibly hard work was awesome to watch. I certainly cheered for him. It is a very sad ending.

It is unlikely there was 15k kilos of lithium in there, more likely the total weight of the batteries. Lithium is only a fraction of the contents of a battery pack, something like less than 10%.

People go to a local festival to eat what they expect to be local food supporting the local community.
