I have to say it// On the intro, I have the feeling when you see the big guy driving your car on the track and he says : "This car is so fun" I feel bad for you! It seems like your saying to yourself, "you don't have to beat the hell out of my car!" This s judging from your reaction on the video. Nevertheless. I am a big fan.. One question, I have a brand new TESLA MODEL S P85D and I am trying my hardest to maintain the OEM leather smell, DO you have any product that may enhance the smell as well as protecting or cleaning.

Hey Larry, great video as always. I have a question. I recall in one of your previous videos you actually performed paint correction with nothing but the polisher, MF pad and quick detailer/water. Since this is hard paint, would you recommend that technique as well or advise to sticking with polish + extra cut pad? Thanks!
@nirvandass5114
@nirvandass5114 8 жыл бұрын
He only used that method because the paint was super soft on that boxster. For hard paint like this it wouldn't really work.
@cenz2279
@cenz2279 8 жыл бұрын
Yea this is where my confusion lays. If the combination of polish and pad was not aggresive enough to remove defects on soft paint why would combo of polish and pad remove defects on hard paint. it would seem the pad itself without the buffer of polish seem more aggressive vs using polish.
@nirvandass5114
@nirvandass5114 8 жыл бұрын
Detailers Corner its the other way around. The pad itself has a certain level of abrasiveness. He had to use water for the Boxster because anything else was giving him residual problems. I believe with hard paint the use of an abrasive cutting compound would be needed to give the desired outcome. The pad by itself won't do much to hard paint in my experience with QD for lubrication vs using a decent compound.
@cenz2279
@cenz2279 8 жыл бұрын
Makes more sense. I guess depending on the level of abrasiveness within the polish plus the pad would be more ideal for hard paint. I now recall the boxster video and his issue as the combo of polish and pad was too aggressive. Thanks for the responses. appreciate that.

Hi Larry. I use these with the Rupes 21 mm but is there anything you can do about the vibration using these pads? Because they are so thin. There is less cushioning and makes for a very uncomfortable polish while using the machine.

I ran into a car a few weeks ago that had some kind of gunk/environmental hazard on it where I had to use the MF cutting pad, but I noticed that the more pressure I put on the pad, the more easily the fibers became matted down, so I'd have less cutting and would have to stop more often to blow out the pad. I found that the lighter the pressure, the more space I was giving the pad's fibers to breathe, and I was cutting more more effectively. Does this sound like a wrong technique, right result, or are there exception to the rule?

Holy crap! A few weeks ago I had an '03 Mustang "Zinc Yellow" that I decided I needed to be in during a nuclear war as I couldn't even remove surface scratches without going "full grit" and a pad that was like your dish sponge's rough edge. And then? I did the same on the edge of the bumper. ...Sigh... I had to get touch-up paint and didn't charge my customer a nickel as I was the one who effed up. Shake my head. Live and learn.

Larry, How would you determine hard paint from soft paint? I'm sure a freshly painted car would be consider soft paint and hard paint would be a car that has some time on it? like a matter of years.
@samuelcabrera9456
@samuelcabrera9456 8 жыл бұрын
it typically depends on the manufacturers. American cars usually have hard paint, meaning it's harder to scratch and harder to correct. and some porches and Japanese cars have soft paint, which can get scratched easily, and you have to be careful when polishing not to burn through, since it's very soft paint. the hard paint can take a beating more and the soft paint is easier to correct with a regular microfiber pad and polisher.

Honestly I haven't a clue. Make sure the towel you're using is superb. (Eagle Blue Edgeless for example). Those towels are super soft and don't have issues with that type of stuff. What towel are you using?

***** I normally just use a Carlake microfibre cloth. Sometimes and Autoglym on that's softer and better.

+Sheldon Kee If I remember correctly he said he pulled it for a while because he was not happy with his products. He thought they were doing what others on the market were already able to do, so he is currently reworking them.

It depends on what type of swirls. Are they micro marring induced by wiping off the residue?

martijn ouwersloot check the polishing pad you're using, type of polish and compare it with the paint hardness. Also your technique is important. It can take a few passes depending on the aforementioned.
