Shin definitely has a lot to feel sorry for, but he shouldn't feel guilty about being with the MC instead of leaving her to Toma. He had feelings, and he confessed them first. That's nothing to feel guilty about. Dammit, Toma, you ruin everything!

There is ! If you play around with settings you can see which one is the Skip button. The default for me was the ‘S’ button on my keyboard. (However this is for the Steam one)

The amount of foreshadowing in the routes and the game as a whole is just *chef's kiss*. When you play through or watch the routes multiple times, you will notice all the little hints (e.g. in Shin's route: who the culprit in is or what Toma's route will be like)... SPOILERS for these two routes 3:50:17 Toma's fatal flaw is his selfishness. That he's mainly focused on his feelings and thoughts and (unconsciously) ignores those of the Heroine. Thus, in Shin's route, he "loses" her to Shin and in his own route, he can't see her feelings for him and what she really wants and needs and ends up hurting them both. His (over)protectiveness for the Heroine is also hinted at, which will be a huge factor in his own route.

Tbh, i was actually surprised when Toma turned out to be the culprit who legit almost killed me. And when they told me he wanted to keep it an accident, he lost all trust of mine. I thought i could trust him.

@@claragemheart581 Oh, believe me, I didn't see it coming either when I played Amnesia for the first time ^^' The only Toma-related thing that shocked me more was Shin's first bad ending where Toma kills the three of them so that their relationship will not be ruined by the crime he committed.

I'll be honest, as much as Toma is pure nightmare fuel in both Shin and his own route, I can't help but still feel bad for him watching this from an outsider's POV. He was the big brother to both of them, never putting his needs above theirs, and when he bottled up these feelings for several YEARS, he snapped and almost killed MC out of the heat of his feelings snapping. He couldn't be selfish once and when he finally did, he hurt the person he loved the most. Though his remorse and guilt doesn't fully compensate for it, his self awareness does. He turns himself over to the police, didn't want anyone else to carry the burden but him, and says that Shin and MC should've never forgiven him. Diamond Route, his gets his comeuppances in Later and Crowd. Something that makes Toma such a tragic character is that he genuinely loves MC and Shin, he loves them both, but his bottled up selfishness turns into insanity

The problem with Toma is that we never get an explanation why he feels the need to suppress his own feelings and desires so much that they bottle up. If something traumatic happened in his past or if he was ab*sed growing up or something else, I could understand that but as it is, I can't help but put the blame on himself for burdening him.

1:14:45 This whole scene. How Shin complains that he has to hold back and then decides not to do it and kisses her - even though Heroine told him to not be too forceful before. Also past-Shin acts like Jacob in "Eclipse", using Heroine's fear of losing him to his advantage. How he pressured her into a relationship with him... The romance in this route was never my favorite and I see why. Edit: 1:48:04 This conversation seems like he starts to regret what he said and how he acted above. He also never kisses Heroine without her consent again. So maybe he learned from his mistakes?

@@dora0270 It's not the oldest comment here ^^ I can only talk about myself but what made me 'forgive' a lot of stuff that Toma did was his portrayal in the anime - he seemed so nice, genuine, sweet and caring (not so much in the game but that didn't matter to me when I played it). Also, how old were you when you first watched or played Amnesia? I was 19, still pretty inexperienced and had never experienced or seen something resembling a 'toxic', controlling, coercive or abusive relationship. Now with 26, I'm able to see many problematic things I wasn't able to before.

@@EleiyaUmei i was 16 now im 20 i think because i grew up in the gen z woke era i had a bit more knowledge about toxic relationships. But i was still a naive 16yearold, i dont know toma and shin always gave me the ick i hated diamond world i remember i just got throught it because i wanted to unlock ukyo. Heart world at least had an interesting story beside the tsundere trope...

@@dora0270 Ha, I only played the game because I watched the anime and found it intriguing - then I played the game and was blown away by how much better it was :D The anime was definitely part of marketing! (e.g. because it spoiled no route's twist except for Ukyos) Ah, yeah, the generational difference between the two of us makes a lot of sense. At least I eventually learned about abusive relationships through playing Amnesia ^^' But you also had a good intuition for not liking Toma and Shin! What about Ikki? He was pretty neglecting imo and that's what gave me the ick. I also didn't like playing Toma's route, it was pretty anxiety-inducing and painful to witness but I was fascinated by Toma's behavior and inner workings as well. The more annoying trope in Heart World for me was the "Childhood Friend". Though having watched it recently makes me think that Shin was a bad Tsundere to begin with because he seems more like a Kuudere (very distant and cold) and barely has any weak or soft moments. (Plus his VA isn't good at acting imho...)

I have no idea why the Shin route seems so popular - popular enough to also appear in front cover artwork of the games. If it wouldn't then also have been for the Toma route I would have liked Shin's route the least. He pretty much pushed and guilt-triped the heroine into this relationship but then for the rest of the times makes it seem as if he didn't want to be in this relationship in the first place. This entire route just looks so toxic to me. I'm so glad that when I played the game I didn't pick the routes in order but rather started with Kent. If I had started with Shin I might not have continued playing.

I agree. On my first playthrough I didn't like Shin at all until I got to the ending. I got the Normal ending on my first playthrough, and when he offered to break up with the heroine to be fair, I realized he does at least have a bit of a sense of honor under all the bullshit, and he earned my begrudging respect for that. But what I can never understand for the life of me was why the heroine is so comfortable chastising Shin for his treatment of her at the end but never chastises Toma for what he did to her. WHAT THE FUCK?!?

I think it's down to a couple of things. Shin's has the best mystery imo, and generally plays out like a traditional mystery whereas the others are more loose and mainly about just the heroine's memories. Shin's has an actual ' who dunnit' element making it more solid. you could argue Toma's is similar with the mystery of who's been harassing us but because his route's controversial I doubt the creators could put him as the main face. Shis is also the traditional tsundere archetype which back in the day was heavily popular in anime (even if there's no sense as to why I agree tusndere's are so annoying).

I mean, I think Shin's design is the most captivating among others. I downloaded the game because of the app thumbnail and it's Shin. When my sister borrowed my phone she was browsing for apps to play, only to choose Amnesia as she told me that she chose it because she thinks the thumbnail is handsome xD

@forgetful stranger I've just finished seeing Kent's route, and I gotta say he was kind of a slow-burn stoic that lacked little to no empathy throughout... He views things way too rationally and logically that it made him come off as tactless and rude... Even when it came down to mc being hospitalized, he still hesitated as to whether he should go to his conference or see if mc was ok... Like, seriously... 😒
