The way I understood how Empress' sickness works- it was a genetical disorder she inherited from her mother. The people whom she wanted to mary didn't work because her sickness always reared it's head which killed the children she bared. She the attempted the vitae treatment, but it turned out to only be a temporary fix, the genetical sickness always reapeared after she stopped using vitae. So the industrial quantities where tried, and immortality became a side effect. With it came mutation and now physical inability to have a child
@GamingHarryYT2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think it was more that she became barren. Her mother didn’t have the disease I don’t think. Her people convinced her that she didn’t need an heir, because she is mother to all of them, therefore they convinced her to drink the vitae and that destroyed her womb, and then she ended up needing the vitae to keep her alive. I didn’t go as deep into it on the video as I’d have liked.

I really enjoyed Rebirth visually, and the Otherworld is one of my favorite video game environments in recent memory. However, I really did not enjoy this game from a game play aspect because everything we did felt pointless. Nothing ever went right for Tasi, and it really made me reluctant to continue because I knew however long I spent doing fetch quests would be for nought. On top of that, and maybe it's just me, I felt like the puzzles in this game were not as clear in terms of instruction as other Amnesia games. I understand that's the point of a puzzle, but there would be a bunch of times where I would be wandering around my environment unsure of what to do. Nonetheless I enjoyed the game and enjoyed the lore and environments, and I don't regret playing it.

I think besides a few missteps in both the narrative and game design departments, this game was a worthy Amnesia sequel. The atmosphere and story felt VERY much like one from the Amnesia world, with my only gripe being that a lot of our efforts in the game ultimately felt pointless, as something would just drag Tasi off to the next portion regardless of what we just did to escape/move forward. Otherwise the bleak story, moody atmosphere and characters and their struggles felt so good as a game to both play, as well as watch my favorite KZbinrs play themselves.

13:31 *The crew except Hank. Seriously, Hank was the GOAT. Yasmin was a very close second. The rest of the expedition either died or turned into selfish assholes who blamed Tasi for their predicament. Their biggest folly was assuming that the empress wouldn't just trick them into drinking the harvester fluid afterwards anyway. She had no intention, and likely no way, of curing their condition. The biggest evidence supporting this is that Tasi is immediately betrayed and turned into a Harvester after she gives up Amari, despite Tihana's dialogue before this suggesting she would "make it quick" (i.e. - end her life). Actually, I take that back, the biggest hint that she doesn't give a shit is the fact that she tortures people endlessly to stay immortal in a ruined world and her only concern isn't fixing her civilization, but to get herself a baby. Someone *else's* baby. Seriously, fuck Tihana. Better to bring the whole tower down around your ears than let your child be raised by a sociopathic hermit.

Though less scary overall than Amnesia: The Dark Descent, (the early fort section was definitely the creepiest) Rebirth was a very solid sequel to the various story and lore threads established there, and I particularly enjoyed creeping through the Otherworld sections with their, well, otherworldly atmosphere. Also, I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've ever had to give birth in a game, which was a unique moment! I got the gist of the story whilst playing, but this video helped put some of the pieces together, particularly the connective tissue between the games, so good work!

The biggest issue this game had was constantly slapping the player in the face by making their actions pointless. Every transition was forced and no matter what the player did the outcome was forced into something else. Had they used this more sparingly then the game would have been better overall. The lore is still pretty great though.

Despite the Empress' cries about Amari needing constant vitae, it's left ambiguous how long she is going to live. We are presented with 2 clashing ideas, with Tasi saying "but didn't we just cure her?" and the manipulative Empress saying she needs constant vitae. But how long that vitae shot is going to keep Amari going, we are not given the time. Maybe she'll live long enough for a huıman, which is considerably short compared to how long the Empress lived so far, or Alexander. For the Empress, it's about living with Amari as long as it goes on, or live forever if possible. So yeah, it could be that one shot of vitae was enough to keep Amari going for a human life time.

I have a possible theory about the future of the "good ending" of it. It could be possible that the same disease Alice died from pre game is not the same as the one Amari got and that because empress Tihanna wanted a child she lied through her teeth about Amari having the same illness. You may be asking, well then why does it show it in the vitae extracting part, look at the beginning when Tasi takes laudanum which specifically says "Do not take if pregnant" so this leads me to believe that Alice just died from natural causes like cancer for example while Amari was just being affected by the laudanum Tasi consumed.
@StealthViper212 Жыл бұрын
I feel like Tasi should’ve gave up her already dying baby in return for the whole plane of survivors actually surviving. Seems like a pretty fair deal
@fortnight56772 ай бұрын
This alien race is good at manipulating humans, if you look at Alexander. She was never going to help them. The only reason she even showed up was because she wanted Tasi to stay alive, give birth and take her baby. Even if the player resists to fear and Tasi shows no sign of turning into a ghoul, she will still capture Tasi and turn her into a ghoul even if she agrees to give her baby at the end. She is not going to let anyone go away. She is just manipulating everyone and everything for her own goals. She didn't just show the true extent of the Other World because it was destroyed, she never revealed Vitae "farms," etc. There is absolutely no reason to think that she would actually help them. We don't even know if she was even capable of helping them. All she wanted was more harvesters, so she tricked them into drinking from the fountain and unleashed fear upon them to transform them into her servants. Tasi and the Doctor was spared because basically she needs to give birth. She was back at the plane crash because she had to push through the fear. I mean there is no death in gameplay, when you "die," it's actually the Empress taking control over your body for a short time and helping you skip to the next area, also having greater control over your body and turning you into a ghoul. By the end of the game if you were careful as fuck, kept your fear low and died like 2-3 times at most, you are basically fine. When you escape with your baby, the ending shows that Tasi is normal. If you die too much like more than 4-5, the ending shows that Tasi is close to transformation, with claws and ill skin. The journey is there so the Empress can manipulate you, taking control of you and by the end, taking control of your body. That's why one of the endings is looking at the Empress too much when she is searching for you during your escape, she'll take full control of you and force you to bring your baby back to her, before completely transforming you into a harvester.

Why does everything so great always have to be hated at first? I'm going to fall on this sword and defend this game till my last breath, I haven't had so much fun playing a game ever before. It was a cognitive challenge with fun puzzles and events that, to me, were even more terrifying than the first game. The world was so vast and detailed it added to the immersion and I felt really vulnerable as a result. I actually had to think, I wasn't just mindlessly progressing. The enemies were terrifying and that maze FUCKED ME UP dude, I had to pause for 30mins to gather myself again. I screamed so hard I had a headache lol. Can't say I did the same playing the dark descent. I think that's okay though, because to be honest I think people just wanted another castle in the dark game, not another amnesia game, which I think is a bit unfair. In my eyes that succeeded where they slipped up in the first game - a strong story with a lasting impact on the player's psyche. They combined the best of Soma and TDD, and that's why I love this game so much.

You're not alone. The story feels the least rich of all the Amnesia titles. Don't get me wrong, I still love some of the set pieces. The Other World is amazing at establishing this abandoned, oppressive, broken feeling. I also think that certain mechanics were straight up abandoned. The Traveler's Locket does nothing interesting. I think its because Frictional has advanced tremendously when it comes to graphical quality, but still has the same primitive AI from the Penumbra days.
