These parts in the game were so good in terms of pacing and atmosphere. You get to recollect on the story so far, and you get lulled into a false sense of security right before you enter another horrifying area. Brilliant.

Totally agree. Sometimes its not what you see, its what you cant see, what you think you see, and the adrenaline and panic you get from the chaotic disturbing chases. Amnesia is the scariest game iv ever played and i admire the twisted mind that the stories and monsters came from.

boy when i entered the area for the first time and heard the song and searched the area and when i found no monster i was happy that i could relax for a bit while in this room, i was sad after i got through the guest room and found the music was gone.

You know, I'm willing to bet that this beautiful theme wasn't even scripted for this part. I feel as though the game designers realised people would go insanely batshit after fleeing that water monster, so they decided to add this... might not be the case but thank god its in the game cos it works perfectly.

Looking at this from a designer's standpoint, the music made me immediately realize the designers were giving their players a mental refresh/break from the tension of the previous chase. In doing so, it didn't completely break our minds to encounter the horrors of the storage rooms.

This song makes you love the room right from when you get out of the water bit, amplifiying the relief and relaxation after that whole ordeal. Then the red flesh takes over once you make more progress and it makes you hate it all the more. Just like "Noooo!! Damn you!! This was a happy place! Now there's blood in the fountain and EVERYTHING IS RUINED!!"

When I came to this place - I got extremely relaxed. The song gives me a slightly feeling of hope, but also sadness.. Something horrible happened in the fortress.. and I get the images, that this song is by the victims of the cruel darkness.

When I came into this room after the water horror, I could just imagine Daniel shivering and collapsing to the ground, sobbing with terror. He doesn't know why this is happening to him, he doesn't yet remember. This is the only real safe room in the entire game, until the shadow comes along and corrupts it like a bitch.

Well you're in luck for the next Amnesia game (A Machine For Pigs) since it is being co-developed by the chinese room (they made Dear Esther). And I'm assuming they are using their incredibly talented artist to create amazing graphics for the sequel to Amnesia. If you haven't played Dear Esther, I'd advise you to check out it's graphics in a video at least. It's a graphical masterpiece in my opinion.

Doom 3 is an action horror game. Amnesia is a horror, suspense, mystery, adventure game. Both have their ways of presenting horror to the player so it is indeed unfair to say Doom 3 sucked because of its formula of horror presentation.
