54 seconds isn't long enough for this relaxing, soothing, most beautiful piece of music in the game. It has been extended, seamlessly to over 3mins, which seems appropriate in my opinion.
Accompanying images are taken from in-game to showcase the fantastic use of light, colour and shadow. It's also a nice break from the nasties :o
I hope you enjoy it and I encourage you to buy the game and ost. Never have I been so shat up so many times in a game, ever! Just shows, that a small company like Frictional can out-do (very well) the big names in the games industry.
Edit: Thank you all, for over 200k views.

"This is the second hub level of the game, and it's supposed to give some contrast to the stressful lurker encounter. We think building up contrast like this is extremely important for the horror mood. Only by seeing a bright level can you appreciate the dark one, and so on. If you do not do this the player will get used to the stuff, and the effect will lessen greatly." ~Thomas Grip

When my boyfriend was in the hospital in critical condition from a brain bleed, the doctors told us he could still hear us, even if he couldn't respond. I played this song for him. I really, really hope he could hear it. While he was alive he showed me this song and told me it was one of his favourites, he would often fall asleep by his PC listening to it. Today is the first time I've been able to listen to the song since he passed in August 2021. I'll miss and love him forever. Thank you for uploading this.

*This is the best tune and scene in the game*. Early on, just after you have had to flee for your life away from an unknown terror you find sanctuary in a large hall. It feels such a relief to finally be able to stop and contemplate your situation... but after contemplating it you realise you are still in so much danger and the likelihood of escaping is minimal... wow, I love this moment in the game... this tune makes it so damn effective!

it’s a bad ending
@mynamekanye240
@mynamekanye240 4 жыл бұрын
@@erd8411 It's the canon ending. That's how the game is supposed to end, storywise. It's the only ending in which you survive because, SPOILER ALERT: The Guardian of the Orb, AKA the Shadow isn't actually trying to kill you, but it's using you to get the orb back, it wants you to stop Alexander from using the orb's power, so if you kill Alexander before the ritual is complete, the orb's power has not been used, therefore the Shadow forgives you for taking it in the first place and spares your life. This explains why if you let Alexander finish the ritual, the Shadow punishes you by taunting you before killing you. The theory that the Shadow is in fact helping Daniel get the orb back is backed up by the info in which it says that if you're killed by the Shadow, you float in a void, eternal darkness, forever, which is Daniel's biggest fear: being alone in the dark. This explains the black screen when you die, it's the void, and the death tips, which are the Shadow trying to communicate with you, trying to guide you, and then it let's you go on. I think the Shadow is actually always saving Daniel from death, because when you ''respawn'', any events that happened will no longer happen again, meaning that the level didn't reset, but it goes on, so what happened, HAPPENED, and now you keep going.

@@JH24821 The Shadow's purpose is recovering the orb, it doesn't care about anything else. The shadow killed the people Daniel first asked for help because they messed with the orb, they "researched" it. Daniel never did anything to the orb. The Shadow only needs Daniel to break the force field that protects the Inner Sanctum. Even the shadow cant enter the Inner Sanctum while under the protection of an orb, nothing can, Alexander said so.

To be completely honest, even to this day I consider Amnesia the best game ever made. It's atmosphere was bloody perfect. It knew how to put you on egde, it knew how and when to give you a false sense of security, it knew when and how to drive you to complete panic and actual fear and terror. And it knew the perfect timing to give you the a moment of peace, a moment when you truly and completely felt safe. It was terrifying, it was mysterious, it was disgusting, dark, creepy, when it needed. All of that, plus an amazing story, multiple choices for the ending, and superb voice acting. My hat off to you Amnesia, I'm yet to run into any other horror game that hits all those points so perfectly.

12 years since release and there is truly no horror game that can came close to Amnesia level. Most of modern "horror" games using cheap jumpscares, gives player a weapon or have poor gameplay overall. Moreover I consider Amnesia the only one true survival horror genre game(excluding Penumbra Black Plague from the same studio). Other "survival horror" games call themselves so, but player either gave a weapon of some sort or just can rush through monsters without needing to utilize hide mechanic. And I'm not even talking here about sense of mystery and suspence - almost not a single modern horror game have them at all, not to rival with Amnesia's level. I tried to find anything even remotely close to Amnesia TTD and after all these years I came to conclusion that games like this release once in a lifetime. Like iconic blockbuster movies.

@@indifferentone8991 you could try Darkwood, it does give the player weapons, but those do not give you comfort. It also has really, really good contrast and ways to put terror into the mind of the player.

I used to think that shockers and jump scares were what made a horror game. Until I found Amnesia, that is what I thought. Not only did this affect the protagonist's sanity, but I think it affected mine too. There were shockers, but the psychological fear that is induced into you is crazy. I hate and love this game so much. And the soundtrack was so scary but so good. I cannot think of a better horror experience in my life.

F.E.A.R (first) is another game like that too imo. Yeah it has its fair share of jump scares. But it does have a psychological effect. The story is immersive as well as the amazing soundtrack tugging at your every sense. For me Amnesia pulls it off better. From the menu, the music, wow. I thought "erm, ok little rattled already" A bit like The Shining, probably my most favourite film ever.

despite the horrors amnesia brought with it, I found it an excellent game, with a lot of attention to in-game details. Right after the water monster part, you come in the back hall. It's so relaxing to get there, because of the map design and the music played there. It really calms you down. And you're ready to carry on to the next horrors, they really shape a mood in the game, they create nerve-breaking parts when you're ready for it. Excellent game.

Late 2012. It was a friday night. I was 14 and playing Amnesia on our old family computer which we'd had since around 2007. Our PC was on its last legs but it could still run the game surprisingly well. My older brother had pirated it from somewhere a couple days before and I was excited to try it out since I'd watched videos of Pewdiepie playing it a couple times by then. I remember almost pissing myself running away from the water monster in that maze, and emerging into the staircase leading up to the back hall. I must've spent a solid 10 minutes just playing around by the strange, morbidly beautiful fountain as I regained my composure. I didn't want to keep playing, but I knew I had to press on. Later, I'd remember how calm this theme made me feel, and I listened to it a couple of times on my shitty Samsung tablet to help me fall asleep. There isn't really a point to this comment. I just remember thinking back then that I'd come back to this song in ten years. I guess I finally did.

I especialy love those few images from 1:55 with the windows and that poor lighting. In a combination it all gives me that weird 'old castle feeling' as 'imagine if those walls could tell about all the horrors and pain they've witnessed'. I cant really explain it better, just hearing this makes me feel sad about the past, old and more recent :)

Then you play Amnesia, and go through the emotional roller-coaster of emotions, to be at your wits end and not know if the next step maybe your last..All of a sudden, before you, a flight of stairs. The heavenly sound carries you as if you have passed on from this nightmare. You start to appreciate what the music is telling you. You start to reflect on past events and realise that, you are not dead, you will continue on in the face of fear and will not give up no matter how hard the situation becomes. But for now, rest..

I really like to come back home at night, after very hard day of work with this song in my mind. And when I'm finally sitting on my chair, with some delicious food I start this song. It's a relief.

These are greener pastures. Solace I haven't ever been able to find. Everyone I have ever known has seen me as a vagabond, an invalid. Yet I carry on, gritting my teeth. The feeling of warmth, of love, of family is alien to me. This is what I've been reaching for my whole life, but can't seem to reach. Contention.

This scene right here convinced me that Amnesia had truly inherited the survival horror mantle from the basically-defunct Resident Evil and Silent Hill series. As if the intimate, white-knuckled horrors that took place immediately before it hadn't been enough, emerging into this lonely sanctuary sealed the deal. I hadn't felt that kind of soothing melancholy in a video game since hiding in the safe rooms of RE2 back when I was 13. Well done to the development team.

When I first heard this, the music was telling me "It's ok. You're safe now. No danger will come to you" and last night i received terrible news that a good friend of mine died in a tragic accident. Eventually I thought about this music because she's safe now. No more harm will come to her. She's in a better place. Goodbye my dear Alexis. I already miss you

I still can feel the amazingly real feeling of relief after getting to this wonderful place called the Back Hall... After the water part, lasting for a couple of minutes, yet feeling like an hour of terror, stress and pounding heart, I've opened the door. I was shocked by the light.. big windows, and slightly blueish beams of peace.. then, this music plays. I smiled to myself.. I've laid back on the chair, take my hand off the mouse and closed my eyes for a bit.. Simply amazing..

This music and the enviroment where it plays is one the most devilish creations i have ever experienced in gaming history. The tranquility and feeling of safety is there only to be taken away from you once you step outside the fountain area. And later it really disturbs you to see what this peaceful place has become... What can i say? Perfection, perfect blend of peacefulnes, shattering of your morale later, uplifting when first met and yet sorrowful. And all this before you even see the choir

The entrance hall was very... Comforting to me while I was playing this at 3am, After escaping the water monsters and the shadow. To sit in the Back Hall to recuperate to press on was a very good plan to me. However now that i'm farther on in the game now, I now the comfort of the Back Hall. Thanks for the upload.

This is just one of the scariest games ever made. And I totally love it. The atmosphere can't be described by words, you just have to experience it. There aren't many games which had better horror-feeling than this. Maybe Silent Hill 1? I'm a huge fan of this and yes developers, you scared me like a little kid. Grats!

A very late comment The first time I played this game was many years after its fame had completely passed. I was a child, I couldn't handle the anxiety that these games put on me. Years later, I can say that this level is one of the best things this game has. From experience, it is a break, a moment of peace and hope in hell, but it is also something even stronger. It is the moment where emotional catharsis occurs, all the terror and despair accumulated by everything experienced a while ago is finally released and you assimilate that all the horrors you see are totally real, and something that you will inevitably have to face. It is the moment of peace that Daniel needs to make himself understood that his path must continue...and you can feel it. GOD, I LOVE THIS GAME! 🌻

That's what it is, a break for Daniel/You to collect your thoughts and reflect on past events. I stayed longer in this level than the rest of the game. It was what prompted me to create this video as I couldn't be the only one who felt the relief and sanctity of the current situation.
