Well this video was a fun surprise. The only game that i played was Rebirth and while i enjoyed it a bit i wish there was more spooky sequences or scarier monsters like in the concept art.I do think this game has one of the best ways to regain your sanity,Tosi trying to calm her baby while there is a monster nearby made me feel more cautios and had a bigger impact than just staring at a light with Daniel.

Personally the bunker is my favourite, however I also think the final boss is disappointing. I don't think it takes much away from the game though, since it's short. What really blew me away was the innovative gameplay and the monster. You have so many options to use for survival like stealth, combat, distractions, fleeing and so much more. It gets you to make smarter decisions due to limited resources. And the monster is somewhat predictable in normal and hard, but shell shock model's unpredictable stalker is insane. Just when you think you figured out the ai, it switches up. It's one of the few horror games that get scarier the more you play it. I have about 50 hours in the game with the majority of my hours in shell shock, I've done so many runs in that difficulty I've lost count. In my most recent run I had an encounter in the maintenance of all places after hoarding fuel from the fuel storage. The lights went out while I was on the hallway and I stupidly stepped on a grenade trap. I ran far enough to not get damaged from the explosion, but I knew the monster was coming. I ran all the way to the loading zone for the central bunker as I heard it crawling in the walls. Then I reached the hole in the wall before the stairs, and I still heard the beast crawling. I anticipated it to emerge out of that hole so I turned back to maintenance and entered the loading zone... Only to be met with the beast charging right at me. I've had so many experiences like this in many runs and it keeps getting scarier. Also you should play SOMA if you havent already, it's up there with the dark descent and the bunker as frictional games' best works

I just want to point out the thing you sited as "public transport" in the Other World in Rebirth isn't that at all. It's a cage meant to carry torture victims. If you look at the floor, there's bloody handprints all over it. Also the Wraith's are actually imho the scariest monster in the whole franchise, and while Dark Descent overall is still a scarier game to me, the Factory section with all the Wraiths had me terrified like no other Amnesia game before it. The ambience, the victims all screaming out in agony, the noises the Wraiths make which sound so pissed off and menacing. Easily my favourite section of the entire game. It's not perfect, I know, but I adore Rebirth. Second favourite game in the series right behind Dark Descent. I honestly loved the HR Giger inspired architecture of the Other World.

I suppose I had a bad taste in my mouth from the game at that point and didn't give them the attention they needed. I feel as if I was caught more off guard when a wraith entered the room for the first time and grabbed the blue triangle thing, rather than the rail car falling.

Don't get me wrong, it's not my favourite game ever, but I still consider it much better than Machine for Pigs. Yeah, the other world bits sucked, but again, I still prefered those bits to the entirety of MfP and how obnoxiously condescending the main character was.

AMfP was the first Amnesia game I ever played. I played the remastered PS4 edition. I understand it's mechanically inferior to DD, but it was an unforgettable and unbelievably terrifying experience nonetheless. Perhaps it would have found more success if it didn't share the Amnesia name, but I still think it's a very special game with a striking atmosphere, environments, plot, and themes.

Tbh I don't really mind A Machine for Pigs reusing the water monster, but they could've made it more original. Like, in five minutes, although this idea sucks, I came up with the following change to the scenario the water monster is in (I'm putting all of this into the "Read more" section of comments because this is long. Too long): The compound/chemical/whatever X is slowly leaking from the water monster into the surrounding water. This is made apparent to you because you need multiple boxes to get across the water and therefore have to witness your boxes slowly being chewed away (or leave the water for long enough to just return to a lack of boxes). Through simple observation, you see that there's a crane-grabby thing that very obviously could hold your boxes and move them to a currently inaccessible (you'd waste too many boxes moving additional boxes to it) "storage" platform. Of course, there's also a dedicated room to controlling this crane, and a place to put your boxes so the crane can grab them. The room holding the crane controls is very wide and short, with a malfunctioned door that is permanently locked open. You can probably see where this is going. There's a bug type monster lurking about, specifically a bug because it's weak to compound X and knows it but is STUPID otherwise. This means once you start actually crossing the waters, your only concern is the fact that if you take too long, the boxes will melt, and the water monster will probably kill you. This bug monster passes by the crane control room every so often because the map surrounding the water section is pretty small (What, you expect cranes/crane controls to make enough noise to lure it over?). The bug monster passes by the door every so often, it's footsteps quiet but hearable as there's almost no other sound. When it passes by the door, you have to be hiding in one of the corners of the room on the same wall that the door is. Other hiding spots work, but only if the monster isn't facing that direction when it goes down the hall outside of the room. If it doesn't see you, it just passes on by. If it DOES, it depends on whether or not you're actually trying to hide (hugging a wall, basically). If you're not trying to hide, it'll just rush you down since... Come on. If it sees you and you are trying to hide, it'll pass by the door and continue walking until it's a bit out of sight from your hiding spot, stop, and THEN turn around to rush you again. It takes you down in two hits, although functionally one as you need to tank a hit to escape it if it charges you within the room.

Disagree with points brought up about the other world not being “scary enough” yes, it is very much like our world, which helps when explaining how alexander accustomed himself and our world (I guess 300 years also helps). The key difference in the two is that in the otherworld, the knowledge of vitae is common knowledge within the ruling class, and utilized to power the city. You talk as though people are kidnapped but from what I took from the story, the poor are treated as livestock to begin with, which explains the super deadly rebellion.

Nice video. Aye, I agree with many of the points you made here. Also I'm sure others have pointed it out already, but TDD was a 2010 release. Man, Rebirth is still such a damn shame; it could've been something special if it had either calmed the fuck down or cranked the weird shit to 11. Instead it just king of middled the in-between, wanting to both have its cake and eat it. There are lots of elements that deserve praise but the entire presentation is marred with baffling creative decisions.

IMO I feel like the “bad” ending for rebirth is more of a mercy for her and the baby while yes it amounts it to a pointless struggle in the end, there was really nothing else good that could happen for them since Tasi is still ghulified we’ll call it and the baby could still be ill so the Shadow could’ve tried to just end the suffering along with the otherworld that way no one else makes those discoveries. That’s my take on it cause rebirth seems to have taken the more symbolic storytelling like machine for pigs.

Personally i don't see the fun in the og Amnesia. The darkness mechanic just makes it harder to properly explore the place because you're basically on a timer. The story being explained with a lot of reading isn't very fun either. The monsters are alright in design, but being chased gives me a headache, you can't see ANYTHING because of how blurry it gets. I guess SOMA just worked better for me.

Honestly I don't mind a gameplay-less game if the story is captivating from start to finish or that the visuals and art always immerses you into them (yume nikki), and not just in the last 30 minutes. The problem with a machine for pig is that despite being well written it fails at being an amnesia and the story only picks up in the last third of the game. It's especially mid since in Amnesia you are generally alone, there's no characters or anything to support them other than their gameplay and story beats. So I get the A machine for pig is well written, but it's not even a very good walking sim, most of the game is spent crawling in tight corridors/sewers ish levels, with virtually no gameplay and pretty boring puzzles, nothing feels tense because half the game is walking without much consequences or things to pull you in. I like a machine for pigs, but it could have done much more with its atmosphere so at least it didnt get this boring for the first 2 hours of gameplay, it sucks because at times there are moments that are gripping and immersive as hell because the art and atmosphere gets good, only to make your crawl 5 more dark corridors for 15 minutes with nothing else to see.
