I made this Bug Fables PMV a few years ago, but never got around to posting it anywhere. Bug Fables holds a special place in my heart, and I hope you like my interpretation of Leif's Request!

Bug Fables has some of the most incredible character writing and storytelling out of any game I've played; I hope that you and everyone else who worked on it know that you've made something really, really incredible that has inspired a lot of people to tell their own stories and make their own worlds. It's been a huge influence on how I view characters and story and is genuinely one of my favorite pieces of media of all time. I'm truly at a loss for words. When I posted this, it never even crossed my mind that the people who made the game would come across it! I'm looking forward to everything you and Moonsprout Games have in store for the future--thank you so much for the kind words and thank you again for enjoying the little animation!

Playing Bug Fables pratically blind and reaching the end of Leif's Request was one of the most impactful experiences I had with fictional stories in recent memory. This video really captures the heartbreaking emotions of it in more detail than the game was able to. I especially got emotional when you represented Vi's Request, showing Leif being sad that he didn't get a heartwarming reunion with his family like Vi had.

@guthou2010 Thank you so much! Everything that I love about the storytelling of Bug Fables is perfectly represented by Leif’s Request. It left a big impact on me too, absolutely a highlight of the game! I specifically decided to include VI’s request here due to how I interpreted Leif’s actions in Chapter 3, where he’s super pushy to Vi about making up with her sister. I can’t remember the exact quote off the top of my head, but he says something about how “something could happen, and you’ll never get the chance to say sorry”. That and the “we want to apologize to Muse” line at the end of Leif’s Request lead me to believe that he and Muse weren’t on the best of terms when he died, which has led to deep regret.

ahh this is so good! theres not much fanworks exploring leif's past and how it may have affected the current leif, but god this is SO well-made and this concept was such a cool dive on his character! love how muse's eyes were always covered; like how leif remembers her, but couldn't quite get it right. his desperation to be back with her and apologize but couldn't anymore because it's been so long is HEARTBREAKING and was depicted so well here! also, Omg, the cordyceps taking leif's hands in "your hands in mine" is so clever. overall, lovely work! always love to see bug fables animations, and congrats on the dev notice aswell! very deserved; its compositions and scenes were interesting to watch :D

this is absolutely incredible. easily the most dynamic posing and composition i've ever seen in a bug fables animation, so much love was clearly poured into every frame. i always wondered how you could portray leif's request as a standalone story to someone who hasn't played the game since it's something a lot of people could reasonate with, and i think this video is the clear answer. i posted this in the bug fables discord, hoping this gets lots of reach soon enough!

This animatic was one of those times where a PMV just materializes instantly in your head upon hearing a song, and it took me about a summer to complete from storyboarding to illustration. I definitely put a lot of love into it, and it’s great to hear feedback about the posing and composition since those are skills I’ve been trying to improve on in my art. Moonsprout is currently working on another game unrelated to BF, but I seem to remember them saying something about having ideas for a sequel that they’re going to work on after their current game is done. They can’t leave us hanging with the eastern lands and Deadlanders! And we still have the flower gods! And that cryogenically frozen Elizant I to deal with! The world of Bug Fables is so expansive and so many mysteries are still left; a sequel seems inevitable.

I'm assuming the reason why Venus can't really see leaf it's because the cordyceps fungus is a fungus and while leaf is technically dead. It seems like leaf was a prominent explorers group

I’m so happy that you like how I portrayed Leif, I tried my best to include the little things in the story that really piqued my interest even before I knew his *deal*, things like the implications that he and Muse had a fight that they never got to make up from, that one spy in the Tarantula Wizard hut where he realizes he’ll never see his parents again, Venus not being able to feel him, etc. And of course I HAD to include HB, she’s such a freak and I love her for it. I just listened to Tomcat Disposables for the first time and DUDE. You HAVE to make that Leif animation, it would be incredible and I’m really curious what it would look like. This animation was an idea rattling around in my head like that for like 6 months before I ever put it to paper, you won’t regret drawing it out. Even if it’s just keyframes timed to the beat! Dude I LOVE that idea, that’s so cool!!! Leif (the cordyceps)’s relationship with Leif (the moth) and his memories are super neat to think about. We need more animations that discuss that relationship, since the idea that Leif(shroom) basically stole the identity, personality, and memories from the corpse of poor explorer Leif(moth) is overlooked in a lot of fanworks. And even though Leif(shroom) over the course of the game reaches the conclusion that Leif(moth) would have wanted him to find closure, expressing what Leif(moth) actually wanted and how he’d feel about Leif(shroom) would be super neat through that song. You can do it!
