I agree with everything you said in this sermon. However, I think an additional point could be that a lack of justice produces chaos, destruction, and rebellion in lives and nations. David was the king and it was his responsibility as an agent of God through justice in governance as well as as a father in that culture. He had an obligation under the law to punish Amnon but he did nothing for 2 years. He let his past transgressions skew his thinking and thus negated his responsibility as king and father which was his duty. This doesn't mean that Absalom wasn't wrong and sinful to kill his brother, but David is also to blame in this.

There's a lack of Justice and then people take matters into their own hands bringing about another sin.Then it just goes on and on. God is a God of love, forgiveness, and mercy. But he is just as much a God of justice. In fact justice is considered a part of what God himself calls true worship. "Seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God."

Completely agree with you. David was a terrible father even though he was King. He violated the Torah as well when he took Bathesheba and murdered her husband to cover his sin. He knew what the law stated because Kings were required to write it out. This is very sad and David is to be held responsible for not addressing it.

Everyone here is correct. One more observation I'll add is. Like David his father, Absalom also struggled with rejection from him..... Every action Absalom took after killing amnon was to get his father's approval.... As David was rejected by his father Jesse.... That's what's so fascinating about their relationship bc....of All David's son, Absalom was the most like him..... He had David's heart and courage..... Unfortunately like most young men, pride began to set in. Which in turn ultimately became Absalom's demise..... And joab like most coward played both Fields to hide his involvement

The divide & discord amongst sibling's towards and against each other Yet parents failure to instill Godly upright in the home and in each child (ren) without playing favoritism and to addressed any violation to one to another

Interesting that it is said that David could not have known what would happen to Tamar or what would happen to Amnon. The scriptures express that David questioned both Amnon's request for Tamar and also Absalom's reequest for Amnon. David had a discernment tap on the shoulder each time but ignored it. David continued to look the other way and ignored the inklings and suspicions that caused him to question motives for requests. Absalom did what was supposed to have been done. Yet, he took it too far when he returned and was embraced by his father. He wanted more; he declared, “If only I were appointed judge in the land! Then everyone who has a complaint or case could come to me and I would see that they receive justice.” He knew it was an ongoing problem in his father's house and leadership staff. He was the elder brother of Tamar, if David the father AND King of this young woman did not carry this out, Absalom was well within the law to do so himself. David was aware of this which is why he did not hold him accountable for the justice against Amnon. David knew Absalom did what he was supposed to do. The law was "eye for an eye--tooth for a tooth" at that time...it was not the "Grace" judgment we are under now of "the LORD will revenge evil for evil." He had a righteous indignation that was correct but then turned incorrect. This is what happens when there is injustice and "respecter of persons" (favortisim...of children and also male favortism when they are acts against women). "Tamar was somewhere..." Tamar was in Absalom's home in mourning for her virginity! She was now to live as a hermet--never to marry and have children which was EVERYTHING to a women back then. Amnon murdered her in a different way than physical. Still in teaching of the Word, men still obscure the truth of leadership that favor and excuse the problem of male abuse (with emphasis towards women). I'm hoping for a movement of repentance amongst (and about) male leadership.

I'm not sure that David's kingdom was falling into ruin, as he left a pretty good foundation upon which Solomon could expand upon, but rather at this point David's family was falling further into ruin.

Third to the throne was Absalom because possibly the 2nd son who's name was Khileab/Daniel, his son with Abigail was probably deceased at this time, which would make Absalom next in line for the throne if Amnon was out of the way.
