Thanks. I am always keen to know the music behind the musician. I am a Canadian so I don't know about the actual state of record shops but Billy, bless him, seems a tad off- Britain, from the little I've read, England has lots of great "brick and mortar" shops. The music he chose- SUBLIME, SUPERLATIVE- made me aware of artists I have listened to and forgot about and need to BUY since radio and Sirius aren't up to scratch...( truthfully I know dick about the latter- maybe a NICE, POLITE, WELL MEANING "cat" will fill me in- yes, BE NICE. LIFE'S TOO SHORT FOR ANYMORE MEANIES- listen to Billy's raw, heartfelt, no half-naked exploited dancers, jiggling about- listen to his music- you might learn something too- Off to shop, Merry Clayton, Yusef Latif, "Confessions of Margaret Thatcher's Hair Stylist and Makeup Lackey" ...I think it was the divine Julie Driscoll who once quipped, "that "barnet"? (Cockney rhyme slang?) imagine putting your hand in it and getting stuck for a week?" I misquoted I'm sure but I got the sentiment- of course she was referring to overkill hairspray, helmets not hair, back combed beehive do's, before Vidal Sassoon made life easier and simply, elegant- I mention Marg because I can't see or hear Billy without shuddering at memories of her and the fall-out still affecting Britain and I suppose, the entire globe- her tentacles of rich are better, screw the ordinary people, those who work, struggle, maintain a foul status quo and promulgate The Me First Mentality- hairnets off to Meryl Streep though for a stunning performance in that biopic- got damn boring so bless her acting skills- time for Brewing Up With Billy Bragg, in my humble sack...Namaste

What you on about Billy? I know loads of independent record shops just as good as the one you're sat in there. Next time you're in Cardiff I'll take you to Spillers the oldest record shop in the world, it first opened in 1894 and still going strong. You need to get out more Billy lad.

@@SueTube7 This is rubbish. Record stores are a business and will stock what sells or what the record industry is trying to push, not what some purported music buff likes. I have NEVER discovered anything in a record store for this reason - there are no interesting artefacts there. Additionally algorithms have nothing to do with vinyl or cd; back in the pre-internet era we would hear of interesting and obscure things via the music press or word of mouth. Today the word of mouth aspect is far greater thanks to the internet and hence people are now better informed about what music to search for (which they can of course buy via the internet)
