Wait one second. If you look at around 7:25 you see that we are square rooting the 0.25. but the thing is, that's just the q value, not q^2. Wouldn't you have to square the q value first, then go and square root that value? But you already have the q value, so technically you wouldn't have to square root anything. You could just substitute the q value (0.25) into the second equation. So basically the first equation should be: p^2+2pq+0.0625, and the last value is 0.25^2.

Hey Amoeba sisters! This doesn't relate to the hardy-weinberg equilibrium but since it's your most recent video I thought it'd be more likely you see the comment here then in a video from 2015! So, I have had to answer a question in biology asking why calico cats are always female (aside from cats with Klinefelter's syndrome or Chimeras) and, I have no idea! I watched a few videos trying to understand it but I'm still so confused! Why is it only in females? How does it happen in the first place? Thank you (I know you probably won't see this comment but it was worth asking)!

This video does a nice job of explaining HWE and how to solve HWE problems. HOWEVER, I think the creators have missed the opportunity to emphasize that the frequencies they found are those expected under HWE. It would have been great if they had taken a little more time to calculate the actual frequencies in the population, compared those to the expected, and given an interpretation about if evolutionary change could be detected in the population.
