On the s8 and s8+, the left and right edges, curve downward toward the metal frame of the phone, making the display panel go right to the edges of the phone, past the metal frame, since because of the curved edges, the metal frame is under the display, whereas the iPhone X is flat panel, making a noticeable bezel on the left, and right edges of that phone.

LCD & LED is basically same thing only the backlighting differs. In case of LCD it generally users a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light where as in case of LED it users led for backlighting. However OLED or Organic Light Emitting Diode is different as it does not use any backlight because it's pixel emit light itself.

Internet Alpha That is true, but you have to remember that Always On displays are only viable with Amoled screens (as Gary said, for LCDs, no matter the shade of the screen, the same power is being used, so a black wallpaper or anything won't save battery). That & the fact that AMOLEDs still tend to have more vibrant colours.

OK here are the panel displays TN, VA, IPS. What are do you do on your computer. Do you do a lot of gaming and playing first person shooters. TN panels are the way to go they have the best refresh rates and highest FPS. Are you looking for the best color and looking to design things then IPS is better. Are you in between you want some good color and some good refresh rates then the VA is the way to go. As for the 4K, 5K, 6K, 2K, 1080 and so on well you have to start looking at what GPU you have and understand unless you spend 5 grand on HPs 60" monitor with 144hz no 4k and above monitor can hit above 120hz. That's because you don't have a GPU yet that can take full advantage of the 4k and above power. Unless you have the money to drop 5 grand on HPs monitor which at that point you can get the i9 CPU a long with two 2080ti GPUs.

The plastic material developed by LG is capable of withstanding high temperatures while maintaining chemical stability when being used as a display. Through the use of plastic, the display can achieve some level of flexibility and curving. The manufacturing process also results in the elimination of bubbles and foreign substances with the POLED’s layers. POLED has some other benefits as well. Displays can be produced that have very thin bezels, they are much thinner than current OLED or LCD displays, and they are more stable over time due to the encapsulation of OLED elements in the plastic. Being made of plastic instead of glass, POLEDs are much less susceptible to breakage. One of the benefits that may not be apparent for a while though has to do with the ability of the new material to bend, fold and otherwise be curved to different shapes." Source: www.talkandroid.com/226084-lgs-poled-display-points-to-devices-right-around-the-corner/ You're welcome.

*colour accuracy demystified in steps:* 1. panel being able to reproduce as many colours as possible to cover the indended use, concurrently (gamut), in terms of tones (contrast) or colour. 2. outputed colours are close or identical to intended colours (calibration, accuracy). that means that if we send a signal with intended value of 10 (measured by external device), we should get a value of 10, after the calibration. The difference in value is called DeltaE. 3. after calibration ability to show full spectrum or subtle gradients without visible step = no banding (gradient quality) 4. balance all the above and you have what we wrongly call colour accuracy, when we really mean overal picture quality. For each intended use and audience, balance will change, according to trends as well. Per example, after all the sheepish fluorescent colour, high contrast, over sharpened faux HDR bullsxit, TVs with Rec709 or other, integrated, cinema derived picture standards (profiles), start to emerge. It is all about intention. If intention is accuracy, the picture will not be impressive. choose your enemy! ;)

Thanks for the video! I wish you included Triluminos as well and say if their colour range is really wider than on a normal LCD panel.. Could you please do a video about AUTO-HDR feature on a phone, what does it do and whether it's necessary or not, since some phones, like Sony and Huawei still don't have it built-in but don't seem to struggle because of that.
@ES-qy2ju
@ES-qy2ju 6 жыл бұрын
Triluminos display has 38% more color range than sRGB, pretty much the same than Infinity display (41% more of sRGB). Samsung prefer more vivid greens (that is why Samsung has a bit more range of colors) and Sony prefer more vivid reds (which is more difficult to increase the range). Sony has it, in manual mode and Superior Auto is called Backlight Scene, and Huawei has it too, but completely separated from the auto and manual mode. Auto HDR is just a feature that enables HDR in high contrast scene, that is all.
@Lucary1000
@Lucary1000 6 жыл бұрын
Emmanuel Santos what about DCI-P3 compared to regular sRGB and Triluminos? I think Auto HDR can be tricky, apart from increasing details in the shadows in high-contrast scenes it can cause unrealistic images also when that's not so necessary, like indoor situations etc.
@ES-qy2ju
@ES-qy2ju 6 жыл бұрын
Lucary1000 DCI is 26% larger than sRGB, so the Triluminous can display 112% of DCI. However, in Android there is no Color Management System that allows to represent DCI. That is why it is preferable to use sRGB.

lol why do so many people hate Apple for a marketing term? It's a term Apple uses to describe a ratio between PPI and viewing distance. They aren't trying to pull a fast one. The screen for the iPhone X also supports 3D touch so it's not just software tuning from Apple. There is extra hardware in the screen too that Samsung can't put in their own screens.

Look at these people crying for inferior display technologies. I'm just waiting for Sony to use CLEDIS™ on their smartphones and pretty much no one can make fun of me with the display, rather I'll make fun of anyone else that doesn't own that smartphone with that display.
@waycoolscootaloo

Johnny Pigman - Why would they use a technology on a phone that is designed specifically to tether panels together to create one large screen? Cletus has nothing to do with image quality, or reproduction. It's just designed to allow for greater scalability without degradation of line's or seams if you will, when combining a bunch of panels together. Cletus technology is aimed primarily at only the commercial Market. AKA... you can basically make a billboard, or advertisement screens at an arena etc... Also the cleanest display at the latest trade show went up to 1000 its a brightness. So it's already surpassed from this year alone like the Note 8. It still using traditional LCD structure with a new implementation to maintain that same level of quality while scaling the physical image larger. So I'm afraid there's no use for a phone. You made me waiting for an eternity.

Scootaloo There's always a possibility to make the individual pixels smaller to fit on smartphone screens. Pixels on the screen on TVs are way larger than the ones on our smartphones, so shrinking them down would make it possible for these smartphones. Oh, and because they can be built on your own, it can also be possible that we get a free aspect ratio on our phones, though Idk how will we do it. Anyways, the Note 8 has an impressive display, but I don't think it's any brighter than the CLEDIS™. For one, GSMArena tested the Note 8's maximum brightness of the display by lighting up a bright light on its proximity sensor with brightness mode set to Auto, and it went up to a crazy 850 nits, which is definitely a remarkable record, but nowhere near DisplayMate's claim of 1,200 nits. Heck, even the S8 reaches 870 nita on the same exact test with the same exact controlled environment, and the sunlight contrast ratio of the Note 8 is inferior to those of the S8 and S8+, heck even the S7 Edge of last year, and the flagship QHD IPS LCD Nokia 8 even beats it. And I'm pretty sure that the CLEDIS™ display took only around 100W of power to be as bright as 1000 nits, while if the Note 8's display was a large screen, it will probably consume up to 300W of power, so using 200W power on the CLEDIS™ will probably make it even brighter at up to 1500 nits. But for now, Sony is planning on using JDI's special type of OLED, a RGB Color-Filtered White OLED screen. It's practically an OLED panel, but the pixels are more of like IPS LCD that are filtered by colors, which, in turn, reduces the risk of burn in that's becoming common especially with Samsung's Super AMOLED™ displays. And the fact that they are less prone to burn in also means that the matrix will be in RGB instead of Diamond PenTile, so no worries about sharpness of the screen. This display tech might be unleashed next year if ever JDI has prepared enough supply for at least one of Sony's Xperia devices in 2018. Basically, Sony has two options to destroy the competition in the display department, so whether everyone likes it or not, Sony will be the king supreme in the display technology competition in the very very near future.
@waycoolscootaloo
@waycoolscootaloo 7 жыл бұрын
Johnny Pigman Johnny Pigman /)_< Omg... Dude! LOL! XD Displaymate is an official testing lab for Samsung and Apple. They aren't going to lie as these companies pay displaymate. It's run by a group of an actual engineers. And I can get my display on my Note up to 1200 nits no problem, as other reviewers have tested it out themselves. The Note 8 goes all the way up to 1200 nits. It doesn't go up to 1200 in that mode that you mentioned. Also of course the pixels are larger on a TV. That's how it works when you take the same resolution from a phone and put it on a much larger display. A 1920 x 1080 image on a phone will have far smaller pixels as the screen size become smaller. Then if you increase it to the scale of say 55 inches, the pixels will get that much larger proportionately to fill out the entire screen. This is where the pixel-per-inch density rating comes in. The technology you're talking about doesn't even pertain to small devices at all. And LED technology that Sony is developing, is not at parody with AMOLED and it won't be. Much like how Samsung claims that their LCD displays on their Flagship TVs compare to LG's AMOLED television sets in fidelity. They're throwing a lot of tricks and stuff to get them to look as good as possible, but they are still out performed by basic AMOLED. Yes they're the best LED displays I have ever seen bar none. But they're still out performed by AMOLED. Sony is years away from catching up to Samsung. And they're not going to do it with LED technology. At least for the next five to 10 years. This is something that was just talked about at the trade shows at CES. Samsung is going to have the best display and won't be matched for at least 5 years. And that's if AMOLED technology stands still which it won't. Also at maximum brightness, the screen of the Galaxy S8 draws 1.75 Watts off the battery. Also they are using a lot of small individual screens each with 7680 x 1920 display resolution. Each tile (screen) is just 17.875 inches wide, and stitched together, the Cledis display was 36 feet by 9 feet. I can guarantee you that at that resolution and at that display size of 17.875 in⁲, they're probably pushing closer to 2,916 watts to power the display based on the specifications that Sony gave out. That breaks down to approximately 9 watts per panel. Which would be right in line with LED technology that Sony uses on their highest-end TVs. Now just for the panel size difference between Cledis 17.9 squared inches, versus the 13.1 square inches of the Galaxy S8 display, the S8 display is 3.8x more energy efficient than each panel used on Cledis.

Sorry Gary, but this isn't one of your best videos. Burn in is an old issue, sounds like you're using dated information and scare stories from those who are justifying the use of LCD. Also, in terms of cost, the price of making AMOLED screens has come down. Last year it was claimed they were even cheaper to make than LCD. The new Y-OCTA displays, (seen on the S8 and Note 7), from Samsung are even cheaper to make than the previous generation, (seen on the S8+ and previous models). That is the reason why the S8+ is slightly thicker than the S8. They don't have the capacity on Y-OCTA yet. The reason why we don't see more AMOLED displays is due to the lack of capacity, not the cost of production. Now that LG are making them for smartphones, like the V30 and Pixel 2 XL, we'll start to see AMOLED in more devices. Also, I thought it was a cop out for you not to state which is best. AMOLED are now vastly superior in almost every aspect. They've even closed the gap on power used when displaying white. You only need to place a Note 8 next to an iPhone 8 Plus to see the big difference in quality.
