Excellent video! Wheat and other grains seem to be increasingly indicated as a cause of inflammation. I bake bread from spelt with 30% organic white flour to lighten it and also because spelt flour is very expensive. I find simpler natural foods to be far less addictive and eating them ends cravings

Could you maybe make a video later in the future on what foods to avoid and what foods to eat when trying to cut refined sugar out of one's diet
@connorperrett9559
@connorperrett9559 Жыл бұрын
Look at the labels of most foods. Generally if something has over 5 grams of added sugars it shouldn't be consumed except as a rare treat...and if something has over 0 grams of high fructose corn syrup it should be avoided, as well!

I found these "ancient Greek" style organic breakfast bars from Cyprus at the store recently with red figure images of Greek heroes on them that purported to use ancient Mediterranean grains and ingredients and was excited to try them out, but upon looking at the label I found that they use palm oil instead of olive oil!

😂 both your so called “facts” are completely incorrect! If you would know your history, you should know that. Stable isotope and historic evidence from Ancient Greece clearly shows that animal source foods made up a majority of the diet 😉

@@AMOPankration don’t get me wrong I like your channel and pankration needs more credit! But making a blanket statement that we need to reduce meat intake for our future without any argument and stating it as an undisputable fact is just plain wrong. You have not provided any arguments why or for your second fact on consumption and health, so no I can’t provide a link covering a blanket statement and links in KZbin comments usually get your them deleted. I am very willing though to have a conversation on these points as I have been researching them for years now and would be very willing to provide study links to any points I would make to any direct arguments you would make. But since at this time you just make a blanket claim in your video I can’t really address it since it’s too broad to cover in a comment 😉 btw emojis are up to your interpretation, if you take offence that is your issue and not necessarily my intent 🤫🤷‍♂️

@dimitriradoux You are entirely incorrect, this is likely due to a pretty severe misreading of research papers. You can find "Diet at ancient Helike, Achaea, Greece based on stable isotope analysis: From the Hellenistic to the Roman and Byzantine periods" (2018) on library genesis if you would like to read for yourself. The authors state in their conclusion: "Overall diet is in good agreement with the documentary and archaeological evidence for a diet in which C3 cereals, wine and olive oil formed the basis of meals to which protein was added. This was mainly terrestrial protein in the form of dairy products or meat from domesticated animals; marine resources were added in smaller and varying amounts." Historical literature suggests that the average urban citizen during the classical period would consume meat less than 50 times a year. They do acknowledge that they were surprised that plant protein sources were underrepresented in their data based on assumptions from classical literature, however they offered several compelling explanations. Further, it seems that it is only during the roman period that terrestrial meat sources rose in importance. Please note that none of this means that "animal source foods made up a majority of the diet".

You also have to think that meat was also healthyier in those times than it is today and that goes for everything we consume!!!
@connorperrett9559

Yes, most of our modern food supply is immensely tainted with pesticides, hormones, and plastics, even otherwise perfectly healthy foods. You have to really go the extra mile and pay extra for glass and paper packaging, pesticide free vegetables and fruits, and free range/pastured and artificial hormone free meat, egg, and dairy products. Fish is often immensely tainted with heavy metals and plastics, especially fish like tuna that is an absolute heavy hitter nutritionally. It is a very sad state of affairs.

Wonderfully underrated video. All these diet fads are people rehashing old ideas and making them sound new. The real solution is to just eat as close to your ancestors did. And maybe add on things they would have eaten given the chance

Very true. I think Northern Europeans should consume butter since it was a big part of their historical diet...but modern processed grain, refined sugar, and seed oils were not a part of anyone on Earth's historical diet since they're all from the past couple centuries at the earliest!

You're wrong when it comes to meet if you're throwing all meat under the same umbrella, grass-fed, grass finish pasture-raised, regenerative farming meat is not harmful for the environment In fact it's actually beneficial.
@AMOPankration
@AMOPankration 7 ай бұрын
The problem is that there is an economic factor that must be taken into account when talking about meat consumption and the environment. The majority of meat purchased is not farmed with a focus on ecological impact -- this is mentioned in the study I linked in the description as well.

@@AMOPankration So you admit it's the practice and not the meat, if they actually practiced regenerative farming the issue wouldn't exist. Also plant-based diets, are far more harmful for the environment.

Love your stuff mate. A great video apart from the jarring climate change/meat insert. Not berating you regarding it but all I’ll say is that there’s a lot of conjecture regarding climate change in the first place, meat production and how ineffective food production will be in order to replace it when scaled down.
@AMOPankration
@AMOPankration Жыл бұрын
I'm aware that many folks didn't like that assertion -- which is not mine, the scientific study is shown in the video and is linked in the description (www.annualreviews.org/doi/10.1146/annurev-resource-111820-032340). If one would like to dispute the study (as many have in the comments) they must also be willing to prove their position. Also, not to be berating either, there is no meaningful conjecture in regard to climate change; other than aimless politicization. If 99% (literally) of experts agree it's human caused (iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/ac2966), I don't need to argue the point any further. Cheers

@@AMOPankration i can’t comment on that first study you’ve linked because it’s broken but regarding the method of the last one you linked. A study that comes to a conclusion based on a word correlation over a large amount of papers proves the consistency of a consensus amongst published study’s, not scientists. You know as well as I do that study’s don’t get funded unless people want to fund them. The way industry is, they don’t benefit from truth, only to line their shot up with investment. I’ve spoken to many scientists in universities and outside of professional settings and a huge consensus simply don’t see the validity of the claims made regarding the cause of climate change. They mainly believe that it is a natural occurrence and the older ones remember when were meant to be underwater by now Would you 100% trust the smoking industries portrayal of cigarettes in the 50s? It’s a similar situation right now. One that will lead to us all eating more expensive and more processed food. The blame for the health damaging effects of it? Climate change

I'm not here to argue their thesis*, mate. If you have the knowledge and expertise on the subject to dispute the findings of these peer reviewed studies, you can contact the authors to submit your objections. For now, I trust their findings. Cheers. p.s. The first link works, simply remove the parenthesis.

@@AMOPankration there’s no argument in the sense of personal attack mate. I was just countering the studies method you were using as supportive evidence….now you’re directing me to the study instead of strengthening the reason as to why you used it as evidence. Ps. It’s disappointing that you seem to be taking such a condescending approach to a simple discussion. Your videos are great but you’ve shown to be a bit intolerant to anybody that challenges your point of view. Either way, all the best and I hope your vids continue to be successful
@AMOPankration
@AMOPankration Жыл бұрын
You can't counter them, that's the point I was trying to make. These are peer reviewed studies written by experts in their respective fields. You are not an expert on this particular subject, and neither am I. Therefore you cannot refute their claims, and I cannot defend them. Hence why arguing the subject is futile. The reason why I used them as evidence is precisely because they are valid and they support my claims. Thanks for the wishes and best of luck to you as well.
