So many good, but my favorites are Skyforger and Queen of Time. Awesome video btw 🥰

The reason they have a similar sound to Acid Witch is because Finnish Death metal machine, Lasse Pyyko, was the primary dude behind that band. The reason Acid Witch has gone downhill since their first album is because he left to work on one of his 100 other bands (specifically Hooded Menace) @sevj Thumbs up for Skyforger

Tales From the Thousand Lakes was my first and is still my favorite. Stone-cold classic. This album is awesome, too; my favorite track is definitely Exile of the Sons of Uisliu

This is a classic death metal album. No newer bands could ever compete with this.

the intro is a Finnish thing where they play melodies similar to the bells from the Konevets church in Karelia. Sentenced did the same on their The Cold White Light record, and ive heard it from many Finnish artists and bands of all styles. Karelia is a beautiful place

@@KaaiHawaiianDeathMetal Yeah, hehe. My father was the janitor so I could sneak a peek, I think. He lived in the same apartment my parents were previously in the '80s. My sister lived there as well in the break of the noughties. Lovely area, I wish I could move there eventually.

Finnish death metal really is second to none. Some of the best albums in the whole sub-genre came out of that scene during the 90's (Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes...Convulse - World Without God...Belial - Never Again) and it's been popping out killer bands ever since (Krypts, Corpsessed, Morbific). Hell, I still like digging through lists of old Finnish death metal bands simply because there was so much good stuff from there that never made it beyond the EP and demo stage. As for Amorphis...was lucky enough to catch them when they came through the U.S. in 2015 doing the entire "Tales from the Thousand Lakes" album

got this one soon after it was released back whenever we saw Relapse Records, we trusted it would be cool. This remains in my top 10 DM albums since that day. Near flawless album IMO. It has all the elements I love about underground metal.

Legends! This, Thousand Lakes and Elegy are my favourite albums from them. “Warriors Trial” being one of my top metal tracks of all time. Don’t get me wrong I like their whole discography but this is where it’s at for me.

also, Lasse Pyyko was active back then with his band Phlegethon. He also has done Claws and Hooded Menace. he's a beast. highly recommend those bands and basically anything else he's done

You need to check out Asphyx or early Grave, to have a more precise reference on the Death/doom sound. Acid witch is an ok band but the OG's of the sound will give you better concepts of the things you enjoy soundwise about Acid witch, a relatively newer band in the Death/doom space

Great songs and without a doubt their best death metal album, ever!! Glad you got this record. \m/ I think I saw them live for the first time a little later, maybe 1996. Over the years, several of their appearances have been seen...though not in recent years anymore. Tomi, the other guitarist and growler on this record is releasing his first solo record right now, under the name Bjørkø. First video has been revealed, go check it out. Bjørkø feat. Jeff Walker: The Heartroot Rots

Nice choice. Relapse Records put out a lot of solid releases back then. Great production on this one. Really captures the dark, murky sound of Amorphis before the influx of prog elements in their latter albums. If you want to hear some of these tracks in their more primitive and raw state they can be found on the Privilege of Evil ep. I only have seen Amorphis once in 2001 when they were on tour with Opeth. They were supporting their Am Universum record at the time.

The early demos and the debut album 'The Karelian Isthmus' were the only raw, death metal records that Amorphis put out... "Tales from the Thousand Lakes" (1994) was the album that put Amorphis on the map... But if u loved guitarist Tomi Koivusaari's vocals, sorry... he quit doing lead vocals early on but is still in the band... Currently, vocalist Tomi Joutsen does all the 'death' vocals as well as the 'clean' vocals (He joined in 2006 on the 'Eclipse' album as Amorphis switched from Relapse Records to Nuclear Blast Records) 'Tales from the Thousand Lakes' is still the record that Amorphis fans hail... it came out just as Type O Negative and Paradise Lost were peaking w/ their brand of doom metal... Amorphis had another masterpiece in 1996 w/ 'Elegy' w/ Pasi Koskinen on lead vocals... Haven't heard some of the other Amorphis albums like 'Tuonela' or 'Am Universum'... but Amorphis took off again after Tomi Joutsen joined on vocals and they showed their brilliance & progression w/ albums like 'Silent waters' (2007) and 'Skyforger' (2009)... Their 2018 album 'Queen of time' became one of their most popular records... Their latest is 'Halo' from 2022. I did experience Amorphis live once on the 'Silent waters' US tour in 2008(?) and it was an incredible live experience, even though I didn't know most of the songs they played (And they were nothing like Amon Amarth😂) ... The venue was not full, so I got the front row experience. They were that good live (as I recall) and then I started collecting their albums... Unfortunately, they didn't tour the US again for nearly a decade (even though their records were selling decently) I do know that Amorphis opened for Nightwish on European tours. Amorphis did release a live DVD ('Forging the Land of Thousand Lakes') and they did a full headline US tour in 2022. Despite line-up changes, Amorphis still retained the members that played on 'Karelian Isthmus' - Tomi Koivusaari (guitar), Esa Holopainen (lead guitar), Jan Rechberger (drums), Olli-Pekka Laine (bass) ... w/ Santeri Kallio (keyboards) joining in 1998 and Tomi Joutsen (lead vocals) in 2004(?)

@@samspade8830 True, would say Demigod´s "Slumber of sullen eyes" is the best finnish DM album. Also true, that the black metal scene has only few good bands around the beginning. Would add Impaled Nazarene too.

CoB is a melodeath band from Finland, but they're not really a "Finnish Death metal band", which has a kind of specific meaning...it's usually a very doom heavy style with a very thick production
