You got me by a year. Amos n Andy was the show that my brother and I would watch every day after school. They pulled up their pants, no smoking and drinking, no hanging out on the corner etc, they were suits. Compare it to the sitcoms ontv ow. The remake of Good Times should be taken off Netflix like Amos n Andy was taken of by the NAACP and I was a lifetime meet.

My great grandmother would bumrush us kids out of the grocry/shopping store to get home in plenty of time to roast salted peanuts and the 61/2 Oz bottled Coca-Cola would be chilled cold from refrigeration the day prior, what fun enjoying this show with the entire family.

I watched these shows as a kid and vaguely remember some of the episodes. I know a lot of black folks think they cast blacks in a bad light, but I as a black person I don’t see why. It was a funny show and that’s all it was.
@bcj842

It’s pretty much just that. Showing characters in a black community being who they are in a sitcom setting, sort of like the Beverly Hillbillies being unapologetically themselves even in hoity-toity Beverly Hills. You’ll never find an Ozarks or Appalachian dweller offended or disgusted at that TV show. Quite the contrary. People from my part of the country ADORE the Clampetts and would take to the streets if a group of people tried to take THEIR people off the air. I should think it would be the same with Amos ‘N’ Andy, but for some peculiar reason, it’s not.

As a white kid watching this show with my grandfather , I learned that black people were just like us . My grandfather was quick to point this out when he said that his mother-in-law was a " battle lack " , just like the Kingfish's mother-in-law . Of course , he told me not to tell my grandmother what he had said .

? I have a friend in the music business Reverend Isaac Douglas we met a few times and talked and he passed this information on to me maybe someone else will verify it but I take it to be true He was known as the fifth Beatle he was involved in recording with this group this group for over 20 years world famous musician Billy Preston his mother played Sapphire on Amos and Andy I was a regular at the time and there's a lot of trivia that has come up in conversations this was one of them I also believe back-in-the-day the NAACP had a lot to do with Amos and Andy being cancelled because of the images that they projected I'm not sure why because today's movies look the same
