Thank you for allowing us to view AMOS AND ANDY. One of the best comedy series of all time. I remember watching them as a child and would get so excited when I knew the show was coming on. Too bad it was removed from TV. and what I feel was for the wrong reasons. Comedies such as THE THREE STOOGES are just too stupid to enjoy.

@gereerowe9686 You are entitled to Your Opinion🤗 The Three Stooges was "Slapstick" Comedy. Slapstick is a form of Medieval Comedy. "Punch & Judy" is an example of Slapstick. The Three Stooges were Masters of Slapstick. Making it more Palatable to the Masses. "The Three Stooges are just too stupid to enjoy" Calculus is too Stupid, with all those childish symbols. Maybe if I Understood Calculus, it Wouldn't be too Stupid😉.

CAA stood for Civil Aviation Authority, predecessor to Federal Aviation Administration. It’s hard to believe that at the behest of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (how ironic);AMOS ‘N’ ANDY was taken off the air in 1966. Good thing that these episodes are available on KZbin.

Only the shows from the 40's on, are on YT, sans the propaganda pushing black face first TV movie. The 40's is when government took majority control of radio with WW2, and that is why we don't see anything of the USA from the 30's in this show. The shows are funny, mixed with anti family and immoral business as the real propaganda. I bet those two examples are not in the 30's broadcasts, and they have been censored.

My parents got our first TV in the early 50's and I remember, as a child, seeing The Honeymooners, Car 54 Where Are You, The Nat King Cole Show, Beulah, The Jack Benny Show, Ozzie and Harriett and American Bandstand. But Amos 'N' Andy stuck out the most to me and my brother because it showed Black folks with businesses, doctors, lawyers, ministers, property owners, families and organizations. The NAACP felt we were being shown in a stereotypical light because there was no real balance. But I felt they missed the point. It was an opportunity to see the Black community in a way whites had no idea existed. There was no gun violence or drugs and what happened in our community wasn't unlike what happened in communities around America. Jackie Gleason and The Honeymooners were proof that regular everyday people had more in common with the Black community than we knew. Amos was a cab driver and Ralph (Jackie Gleason) was a bus driver. Both public servants. The efforts by various groups and individuals to get the only majority Black cast show off of the air removed the opportunity for TV to be a vehicle to open the minds of people from different ethnic backgrounds to the rich culture of Black America. In less than 20 years, we ended up with Sanford and Son and The Jeffersons. A wasted opportunity.

@EarthSurferUSA Жыл бұрын
You are confused. When people hate a show,---it does not last for 30 years on the air live. Now you were taught it was racist and sexist. But the real progressive indoctrination is anti marriage, and anti free market. I admire their free market spirit, but they are put in the roll of snake oil salesmen. If you can see those two points in these shows, then you will know you have been tricked with distraction. By the way, nothing on this earth is more brutally sexist and racist,--than communism. They are tricky, psychological masters. You will figure them out most likely, ------eventually.

Wow! They portrayed black men as not only being dumb, but lazy, (as he wouldn't take the doorman job), but would actually con their own friends out of money, rather than working a legit job. Also interesting is that they added laugh-tracks to make the TV audience believe this syereotype was somehow, funny.

Not all the characters fit that stereotype. Amos owned and operated a taxi. Calhoun was a lawyer.
@riorich Жыл бұрын
Yes, there are some things that you won't like about characters on TV, but most comedies have someone that's stupid, etc. Ever watch Abbott and Costello? It ran around the same time. They never had a real job, always running from the landlord because they never had the rent money. Did anyone complain? If it wasn't stupid, all they be doing is sitting at the lodge all day and wouldn't had a plot or story. I watched it as a kid, but I never wanted to be like Kingfish or Andy. If people thought that we were all like Andy and Kingfish, then they lived out in the boonies where they had little or no blacks. I've never thought people were like The Three Stooges, slapping each other etc. This was to me, nothing but acting for the camera to get laughs.

Watched it start to finish with my parents. Very funny but horribly black stereotyped.
@bcj8422 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why so many people, black and white and everything between, enjoy The Boondocks so much. Stereotypes are part of what makes comedy relatable and funny. If these characters spoke like white people, a lot of the humor would fall flat because these characters wouldn't be immersive. "Stereotypes" aren't inherently negative.
